Hair dye

I've dyed it once since being pregnant. So long as you don't let the dye
touch your scalp, you're fine. Most dyes are odorless these days, so they're essentially harmless to smell.

I've been using temporary dyes a company called RAW cause it has less harsh chemicals but the dyes not working as good beause I don't want to bleach it first.

I do, but I havn't since being pregnant
What are the 'rules' on it?
Is it bad for the baby?
x

From what I've read, you can still bleach but only if it doesn't touch your head. You should use foils to do so. However, I'd probably steer clear of bleach to be safe/.

Mmm good idea
Think I might leave it for the mo
God knows what my hair will be like by July though! lol

I asked my midwife about this and she says its perfectly fine to use any hair dye at all she said people used to say it years ago as they where so harsh then but they arnt so harsh now and it doesnt effect the baby at all so ive carryed on with my highlights xxxx

Apparently hair dye is fine, & bleach should be done in foils. x

My cousin is a hairdresser and she told me that, Years Ago they used to use very strong chemicals however they don't now and the only thing that could happen is that the hair will react different than how it normally does.

I just got mine done at the end of Dec. My hair didn't react any different than normal. I didn't bleach it at all though.

i am new in hear but it is perfectly safe as long as the smell is not too strong i have 3 children and i have dyed my hair when i was pregnant with all of them and they are fine

i bleached min straight through Izzie's and nothing was wrong, i always home dye and do it every 3-5 weeks, sometimes bleach sometimes darker, and everything was fine, i asked at the hospital and they said it was fine

I have been dying my hair for 13 years and i think that i will still continue to do it throughout my pregnancy. I just cant stand seeing my dark roots.
I was told that it is the fumes that come off the dye that are harmfull to your baby! so if dying your hair you should make sure that the room is well ventilated so you dont breath in any of the fumes

thats what i did lol, i even took to doing it in summer outside lol

I've gotten mine dyed once while pregnant and the doctor said it was ok, also plan to do it again sometime soon before the babies come

I used to but I haven't since I was pregnant.

I usually get the home dyes (Herbal essences) though and I dont go to the salon... is that the same? Its a brunette colour as well so I dont think it has bleach in it.

I'm so glad someone posted this, cause I have been totally wondering. I didnt' want to do aything to hurt Peanut, but I hate having darker roots! I think I'll just dye it to my natural color so I don't have to do it more than once.

My doc says there is no problem and my hairdresser informed me that she has 5 healthy kids & worked 40 hrs a week in salon all through her pg's so that made me feel a bit silly for asking when I thought of it that way :blush:

Iam a cosmetologist and dying or bleaching your hair while pregnant is not harmful one thing to watch though is the way your hair will react to the chemicals because of the ever changing hormones of pregnancy!!! I have had color not turn out the way it should of because of the imbalance in the hair follicle....

Safely Colouring Your Hair
If you want to carry on your usual routine and have your hair coloured during pregnancy, or colour it yourself, it's best to wait until after the first 12 weeks, as the risk of the chemicals harming the baby is much lower then. Going to a hairdresser and having your hair coloured by professional is a good move if you're wary of using chemicals yourself and takes some of the worry away.

If you decide to colour your hair yourself at home, you can take a few simple steps to make the process safer:

Do a strand test first, even if you've used the product many times before. When you're pregnant, you experience all sorts of changes to your hair and it can react very differently to colouring.
Make sure you don't breathe in too many of the fumes, which can be toxic, by keeping a window open and the room ventilated.
Wear plastic gloves to avoid the chemicals coming into contact with the skin on your hands.
Apply the hair dye with a brush or implement provided and try and avoid getting too much of it on your scalp. To help this, you can put olive oil around your hairline and ears to act as a barrier and stop dye from penetrating your skin.
Leave the hair dye on for the minimum time and then rinse it off thoroughly with water.
It's worth bearing in mind that highlighting your hair, rather than dyeing it completely, is a good option, as the chemicals are only absorbed by your hair and don't come into contact with your scalp. There are also safe alternatives to chemical dyes, such as henna, which are worth exploring.
