i have a question, a friend has put her baby (5 month old) in some nike air max trainers, the ones with hard soles, she is letting him 'walk' (by holding their fingers) around on them. i always thought this was bad for their feet if they arent walking yet.. is this correct? i would like to give her advise as i dont want his feet to possibly be 'damaged' as thats what i was always told, and i also dont want to but in if im wrong

It's probably not the best for his feet but I imagine he's not wearing them all day every day. I personally wouldn't say anything as I don't think its the right place and she could be very offended.

I understand you're coming from a nice place wanting to offer advice but if he's only wearing them every now and then I don't think it will cause too much harm. It's not like he's not being strapped in to his car seat properly etc which could be fatal x

he does wear them all day every day, she is always out with him never inside and he has them on the whole time, every picture she puts on of him (& trust me she uploads a pic of him every hour of the day) he has them on, i dont think she would be offended she isnt like that she accepts advice as its given i just dont want to tell her what i have always been told & then i look like a idiot when im wrong haha

Personally I wouldn't say anything but that's just me as I know how irritated I can get when I receive well intentioned advice. As the other poster said, it's not going to be fatal and I'm sure it won't cause his feet any damage so I would leave well alone if it was me (even though I can't bear seeing shoes on babies who can't walk!!)

This^^

I wouldn't say anything, personally, as I don't think it's worth the risk of offending her. To be honest had someone mentioned something about my LO's footwear being inappropriate I would have felt like they were nitpicking a bit (even if it was well-intentioned, I think every time you tell a mother she's doing something 'wrong' it stings a little). So unless it's an issue of not being strapped into a car seat or giving a three week old solids, I would stay clear of calling question to people's parenting choices unless they've asked you for advice or it's an open discussion.

Agree with PPs...i wouldnt bother tbh. I imagine itd cause more hassle than its worth. Its not something i would do, i dont put any shoes on my babies til they are walking, and even then its cruising shoes til they properly walk outdoors. However, i do know quite a few people with baby boys and they put those shoes on them xx

Yeah, it's not good for his feet. I'd have to do research to know how much "damage" it does though. If you're comfortable giving advice but don't know if the advice is correct, perhaps you could voice your concern as just that: a concern. Express concern that you think you've heard that it's not good and ask her if she's heard that before. It could be she has and then did her research to find out that it's not that big of a deal, or it's a risk she's willing to take. Or, if it isn't something she's heard but is open to advice, she might take a look into it or ask more questions.
