Hi,

I have 3 children, aged 7, 4 & 2 and all were delivered by c section. The 1st was an emergency and the last 2 were elective.

I would really love to have a 4th baby but I'm worried about having a 4th section.

During my 3rd section it went well, as did my recovery, but the op did take longer than the previous one and I seem to remember the consultant telling me if I had another it would be more complicated.

At the time I had no idea I would want another baby, I was busy concentrating on welcoming my newborn into the world and didn't think to ask more about what she had said.

I would really like to be sure of the risks before I try for another baby, I wouldn't consider TTC unless I could be sure it was the right decision.

I'm not sure if I visited my GP they would know any more than I do. I don't want them thinking I wasted an appointment as I'm not even pregnant!

Broody and confused...

i have had 3 c sections and i would want more in the future , for me they did not say anything about having more
i would ask your GP if you are concerned :)

I had 3 sections in 3 years.....sept 20 06, april 18 08 and sept 14 09....with my last I had a condition where I had waaayyy too much amniotic fluid and my uterus actually tore during the delivery. the dr said as long as I gave it at least a year to heal I could for sure have another. I am 28 pregnant now with what I call fourth and final lol probably bc there is such an age gap this time.

when they said more complicated they may have mean that you get adhesions which is scare tissue that is hard to cut through but no means mean you cant have more babys....shoot my MIL had 5 sections in an 8 year period in the 70-80's...

if you want to talk to a dr about it I would go to the ob that delivered your last baby they would have better answers for ya.

I've not yet had a 4th sc, but am pregnant with baby #4 after 3sc.
After my 3rd I didn't think we would have another baby, because I had to convince my husband for him. But I still wanted a little one, and my husband saw I was 'suffering'. So I went to my gyn and asked, he said to be sure, he'd do a special ultrasound (where there was fluid brought into the uterus). And we got an  for another pregnancy.
So I think it would be good to see a doctor before you decide.

I'm so glad that I found this thread!

I would check with your doc and like Tikske said they can check.

I'm hoping to get the  myself, I did that special ultrasound back in Feb and they told me that my uterus wall was too thin ... so we're re-doing that ultrasoundin June... so I'm hoping that my uterus wall has gotten thicker!! Tikske, when they did the ultrasound did they tell you how thick your wall was around your scar?

Thanks!!!

Take care and good luck!!

I never knew about doing the ultra sound to check. my doctor had never suggested it for me....interesting.....oh well baby #4 is coming in 11 weeks lol.

Thanks for all your replies, it's great to see I'm not alone and you've given me hope 😊. Will get in touch with my doctor and see what they say xxx

Hi everyone. I'm so glad I have found this post, new to forums and feeling rather anxious about my 4th C.sec also!

After having 3 children already, falling pregnant almost 8 years after my last daughter was born was scary after the initial enjoyment.

I see my consultant at 12 weeks to be told see you at 36 weeks, felt rather odd as I was looked after closely with my daughters.

Currently I'm 16 weeks.

Have a gender scan Monday (shussshhh its a secrete)

I'm having my 5th c section in December 2014. Depends on various factors.

I had my 4th 13 days ago.
After my 3rd the surgeon said my uterus was really thin so advised against any more babies (number 4 wasnt planned!)
All the way through my pregnancy with this one they told me the section itself would take longer and there were much more risks involved.
However it was my quickest section yet! In and out of theatre in about 40 mins, no mention of a thin uterus, nothing. Was the best experience out of all of them. So for me, it doesnt always pay to take to heart what the Drs tell you, as in my experience it was as far from what they said as possible x

You give me hope!

Can you tell me, how much time between your 3rd and 4th c-section? also did they every measure the thickness of your uterus wall?

Thanks!! and Congratulations on the new baby!!!

There's 29 months between my 2 youngest. Never any mention of measuring the thickness no.

Good luck with whatever the future holds! HTH x

Thank you!! They measured my thickness back in February.. it was only 3.5 mm not pregnant.. doc said I CANNOT get pregnant... we are going back in june to see if it's getting thicker, and then we'll make a decision... my last cs was June 2012.. but I miscarried October 2013 and baby had implanted on my scar, and I ended up with a "tumor/mass" so to speak all of the way through my uterus wall... so I'm hoping that my body heals!! So I'm hoping it's gotten thicker and maybe if we wait until it's been 1 year since the mass we should be good.. fingers crossed!!!

I have had 6 c-sections. All turned out fine. My dr. said you can have as many as you want but with each one the risk goes a little higher because the chance of the placenta attaching to the scar lining goes up. You will be deemed high risk due to this but then you get more US

I'm really glad I found this post!
I've had 3 sections- 1 emergency and 2 elective. I wasn't really told anything during or after about scar tissue/condition of uterus. Although the last time the op did take slightly longer.
I did ask a midwife after about the risks of another and she said it varies depending on the person.
I do think that I want one more baby in a couple of years but I don't really know how to find out what the risks are to me personally. Does anyone know if a GP can refer you to a consultant? I'm guessing that my GP won't know the condition of my uterus and can only give general advice?

xannekex you can ask for a referrel to an ob if you don't have one. My ob did a special ultrasound, called a saline infused ultrasound, they put a saline solution into the uterus and then this allows them to look at the uterus and asses it's condition. They are able to check the thickness of the uterus wall. For me they did this in February, my uterus wall was thin around my scar, only 3.6 mm. My ob said it's about 1/3rd of what he'd like it to be for it to be safe for me. He did also say that lots of women have thin uterus' and never know that he's gone to do the c-section and the uterus is so thin that he can see the baby before he cuts. He said it's unusual to know ahead of time that it's thin. He also said that all it really means is that I can't labour AT ALL, so if I started contracting at 20 weeks, then that's when the baby would come out. I have no history of pre-term labour so that's good. I also called the hospital and asked for my surgical reports to see if they noted anything.

Good luck!!
