When paige was born i was formula, expressing and breast feeding, Paige was always a bit unsettled and even more so between 8-12 at night.. then last week i decided to just breast feed as all of sudden paige took to the breast. She has been even more unsettled since then and a nightmare at night, crys for no reason, stops crying and then suddenly starts again, starts to fall asleep but wakes up crying... We decided to give her just foomula today and she is has been fantastic, no crying and has been asleep with no problem since 9 for the first time ever.

Is my milk the reason why she is grotty... grotty is the best word to describe her.... could it be something i eat or drink ?

We are going to formula feed tomorrow too and see how she is, then breastfeed monday and see how she is.

I have posted in breast feeding too

Yes, we started using soy formula because he was vomiting breast milk. It was the dairy in my milk. Babies are not allergic to their mothers milk, but can have intolerances from the mother's diet. Try to express as much milk as you can, you are going to get some painful engorging and start losing your supply if you don't keep up with it.

Good luck and hope you get a solution!

Thats sounds exactly what we went through... I noticed at first he was accepting the formula much better so I stopped BF all together because my milk was making him spit up like crazy and giving him painful gas. After about 4 or 5 days of just feeding formula he started getting worse then before.. it was awful poor little guy was getting such bad gas :( I tried to get my milk back by pumping every two hours (which was what I was doing before) and it just wouldn't come back :( It turns out he was spitting up like crazy because of the bottles he was using... He got way less gas on my milk but it was too late and now we are stuck with formula.

my lo has always been unsettled after a feed he was bf for just short of 3 weeks then switched to ff. he settled much better with ff at first but soon became unsettled again after a few weeks... dr thinks it's reflux and he's now on gaviscon which calms it a little but hasnt completely cured, i'm going to talk to them again at his 8 week check on monday

so even if FF does solve it, it may only solve it for a short time, hmmmm thanks guys for posting, i wont give up on the breast feeding then, we have a doctors appointment tomorrow as i wanted to try baby gaviscon.. we will try anything right now.

Combi feeding/formula feeding will affect supply, which can lead to a fussy baby... You need to build up your supply before introducing the other stuff or bottles... since you couldn't, you should start now, baby will fuss, want to be on the breast all the time sometimes to help bring in more milk. Don't stop yet give it a little longer hun, and talk to your doctor about it. stopping now/not expressing regularly can really mess up supply. Good luck! Hope I made some sense.

I wouldn't flip flop like that. I've been told a trial takes 2 weeks.

I went through several eliminations with my breast milk [I pumped until 6 weeks she didn't begin nursing directly until 18 days old] I eliminated everything. Milk, soy, wheat, eggs, goat's milk dairy nuts etc etc etc and she still pooed blood. Finally we switched her to an Elemental formula completely. She reacted to the first but has been doing wonderfully on EleCare since 5 months old.

Any time you give a bottle you have to pump to make up for it until your supply is established even then some women cannot skip a feed without noticing a drop.
