Hi my little Daniel is 17weeks old, he is going through hell at the moment with red inflamed gums i can see the whites of his teeth in his gums it seems in the day he is fine with sucking his hands and teething rings, but at night all hell lets loose, especially at bed time tonight it has taken us 2 hours to calm him down. Just went to Tesco's pharmacy and they gave me some Ashton and Parson powders just wondered if any of you have used this and what were the results? many thanks from a first time mummy

ive used it, it instantly shuts him up crying but doesnt last long, i prefer Teetha - teething granules

We use it...we call it the 'magic powder' in our house...it amazingly works instantly on abigail...

definitely recommend it to anyone

yep 'magic powders' here too, or special powders lol!!
we've used them for a while (not all the time) once or twice a day when his gums are hurting. agree that they do seem to help instantly, but dont last that long unfortunately.

Agree that they are very good but only for short-term relief. The effects of them wear off very quickly - dentinox teething gel is very good or at least it works for my two anyway xx

The powders dont actualy do anything for the pain as all they contain is a form of lactose so deffinatly dont take if your baby has milk allergies.
They do however have a very calming effect and Brian seems to calm down instantly but has been said it doesnt last long but at least somtime long enough for them to relax and drop off to sleep.
Best to still use a bit of calpol or the likes along with it for the actual pain itself.
Alternativly look into Amber teething necklaces, they arnt for everyone but alot of people (do a search just on this forum alone) swear by them.

We found that they were good to settle the dodgy tum and nappies that come with teething but they wore off quickly. Also found teething gels don't stay on the gums long either, the best thing we've used and it works instantly and lasts is Anbesol. You get it ove the counter from boots or any pharmacy, and it has the same active ingredients as the tellthing gels have but in liquid form. Pure genius if you ask me!

When he's really out of sorts, lots of crying and not distracted, we use the powders. When he's generally ok but has the occasional outburst or when he's chomping on anything that he can find, we use Anbesol.

Isn't Anbesol fab?! it instantly calms H down! We call it magic potion!

Ashtons contains tincture of matricaria, which seems to be Chamomile. Chamomile is known for it's calming effects and can have a slight effect on inflammation. The Ashtons & Parsons can be repeated every 1-3 hours if necessary. I find it helps a little, it depends how bad things are at the time. Sometimes that with bonjela and calpol or calprofen don't seem to help. I keep a clean cold wet flannel in her teething lunchbox in the fridge, it sometimes helps and can be frozen too.

i loe anbesol for my ulsers, the gel forms us slip off my finger, same with the teething gels.

the powder is great for the same reason as stated on here but i don't understand why he likes it so much, it has no taste but instantly quietens him!!!

I've also switched from using calpol to using ibuprofen (baby neurofen) as tom tends to get a temp when teething and its good for inflammation, also it conks him out quit well lol x
