I am so worried, I can not even sleep at night.
My pregnancy was not planned, and we wanted to wait until *
we are in a better financial situation and have insurance. I just moved from the East to the West Coast and have not had a job here yet (my fiance was attending college and I was supposed to be the "breadwinner")
I wanted a future pregnancy to be monitored by the best doctors from the first weeks on. What I had to do now is walk hours on foot to free clinics to at least get some help.
After some time I got approved for MediCal and I hope this insurance will cover the prenatal care needed.

I have plenty of medical conditions, and 3 of them are big threats to my pregnancy. I read about miscarriages and pre-term labor due to these issues. The first Doctor (to be) I saw looked at me gaping in shock and acted as if I needed to be hospitalized this second and that my chances of having a healthy baby are very slim. She also said I can not have any intercourse because it would make my cervix incompetent :(

Here is what I have
Hashimotos Thyroiditis - autoimmune disease where the thyroid gland can not make enough thyroid hormone. My body also attacks and destroys its own thyroid if not controlled by meds. I was started on 50mcg of Synthroid in September. I did not have any Symptoms before but I do now:
Hair Loss, Sluggish Metabolism, Dry skin and mild acne.
However my TSH went down, only my antibodies are still high ( 600) and need adjustment.

Pituitary Tumor- 6mm big benign growth at the pituitary gland, hinders adequate hormone production, my prolactin levels were too high, *and I lost a ton of hair which is now growing back though. No other symptoms, my eyesight is still fine.
Taking 0.5mg of Cabergoline, 1/2 tablet once a week (dose was already lowered)

Cervical Dysplasia, LEEP - I don't know if I still have precancerous cells, but doctors suggested a possible second LEEP in 6 months. I just had this LEEP done November 1st and I got pregnant right after the healing period. Before that I was CIN III which is "severe cervical dysplasia". I have had abnormal PAPs since 2004 and chances are my battle is not over. My biggest worry here would be my cervix becoming incompetent.

Aside from that I have minor issues which I believe don't pose a big thread : Fructose Malabsorption, Pineal Gland Cyst (at Brain). Steilherz ( I don't know what that is in english but my heart does not have enough space in my tiny chest and is turned vertically I believe...not a bad thing I think though)

Due to the Fructose Malabsorption I am lacking Fruits and Veggies in my diet a bit.

Doctors referred me to a Perinatal Center, saying that they would be more knowledgeable regarding my conditions (they certainly left my OB with a puzzled face)

I was hoping to see and Endocrinologist also but it seems Doctors don't want to give me a referral. My former Endocrinologist used to tell me how important it is that my thyroid and tumor will be monitored every 2 months and my dose adjusted if needed to prevent a miscarriage.

I know this is a TON of stuff, but I am hoping someone can help and maybe ease my mind, give good advice on any of the conditions...I am so scared to do something wrong.
In case my post is hard to understand I apologize, I am typing on an iPhone and my thoughts are all over the place (oh, and I'm also German)

Thanks for any help you may provide!

Hi....I have hashimotos ! I was diagnosed 8 years ago.....I have a 15 year old son, but was told I was infertile due to the results of my routine thyroid blood tests.....well 2 years later we decided to try for a baby and the hospital told me it was impossible without help...so they booked me in with a fertility specialist and guess what.... I found out I was pregnant the day before my appointment, they couldnt believe it, told me it was impossible, worried me by saying that I would lose the baby, my body would reject it, but I went on to have a healthy 10LB baby! I was warned that I would be more prone to gestational diabetes because of my thyroid problem.........................anyway 6 year on I am now nearly 39.....my new doctor told me I had started the menopause as my periods were all over the place and hormone tests showed I was in early menopause (my mum had this at same age) anyway my husband and I tried for another baby and I fell pregnant after 4 months of trying!!!! I was gobsmacked.......I was a little concerned as they had just lowered my thyroxine dose...it was 225 mcg it is now 200mcg but I seem fine...............I have also had early cancer of the cervix 3 years ago, I had 2 lots of colposcopy treatment and then surgery.....I have my 13 week scan on monday and I am a little worried in case there is a problem with my cervix as I dont know how much they cut away. I know it is easier said than done but try not to worry too much....the docot will look after you and monitor you throughout your pregnany? Is this your first pregnancy? If so then It is difficult not to worry as you dont know what to expect, Can you go back to your normal doctorr and ask for a referral to the endocrinologist? I was told that it is the women that are pregnant that dont realise that they have a thyroid problem and are not being treated that need to worry, as long as you are taking thyroxine and not excessively tired you should be ok, this is what I was told, but sometimes they like to increase the dose a little.....I am going to ask about this when I go to the hospital on monday....hope I have put your mind at rest a little....the fact that you have fallen pregnant is a good sign that there isnt much wrong in the way of you fertility wise which is very common with hashimotos....I feel blessed to be having another child ...sending you hugs, try not to worry :hugs:

lol ive just noticed that you are German, im half German so we have a few things in common lol!

Thank you for your long reply! :)
This is my first pregnancy, yes. I also heard tales of infertility because of my low weight, Hashimoto's, the Pituitary Tumor which causes fertility problems the same way, and now the LEEP, my cervical glands were removed so I don't produce any cervical mucus anymore which decreases fertility.
Before I got pregnant I had studied NFP, combining basal temp., calendar and fertility sticks to actuall AVOID pregnancy....lol
I went a half year sexless (long distance relationship) and monitored my cycle, which was always on time and perfect.
But, the first time my fiance and I had sex I conceived!! I can't believe it because I was faaaaar from my fertile days. O_o
Well, so baby wanted to be here earlier than planned, I also think it is a good sign I got pregnant easily and maybe right now is the best time to carry out a pregnancy. I don't know if my health will be improving and my Cervix might cause me Problems again.
I definetly will see an endocrinologist as well...the OB ordered a thyroid panel but I don't trust them to know it all.
Congrats to your second child! I wish you an easy pregnancy! Has the doctor taken a look at your Cervix? I was referred to a Perinatal Center to have it looked at (length and opening)
So you are half German, sprichst du Deutsch? ;)

Hi....I actually already have 2 children....this will be my third, I have a 15 year old from my first marriage.....before I was diagnosed with my hashimotos! I was hospitalised for 4 days at 6 weeks as they thought I might have had an ectopic, so I had an early scan....but they couldnt see any embryo....so they kept me in as they found a cyst on my ovary and did blood tests...three days later the results had doubled and when they did a scan they then found a tiny sac.....So I have yet to see the heartbeat, I have my scan on monday. I did ask about my cervix while they did the scan but she couldnt see much, so I will ask again on monday. My mum is German, I cant speak any German lol.
I am sure you will be fine...I will keep my fingers crossed that you have a healthy pregnancy :hugs:

Not many doctors seem to know much about the thyroid over here, they can tell you the blood test results but they dont seem to understand the thyroid in depth as it is a very complex thing.

Ahh...sorry forgot about your oldest.

I agree, most Doctors don't seem to know enough about the thyroid.
It is very hard finding a good knowledgeable doctor.

Since you mention ovarian cyst, I have that too...one big one left and a smaller one on the right. Had them for a while.
I will ask about that during my appointment tommorow.

Well I am hoping for the best now, thank you again!

Have they told you when they are going to put in a cerclage? I have heard that if they are put in early enough they work pretty well.
I just found out yesterday that despite the fact I'm being monitored by an endocrinologist I should have been on Levothyroxine from the beginning of my pregnancy and now I'm 21 wks and took my first dose this morning. In June I was diagnosed with a goiter, and my lab tests came back with normal TSH, normal T3 but low T4. He said we'd wait and see how things went and retest in a year unless I became symptomatic. I called him to tell him I was pregnant as soon as I found out in September (unplanned pregnancy), and he knew my t4 levels were 0.78 and he just had the nurse call me to tell me he'd see me in June! My OB just ran another check and my level had fallen to 0.5 :( I trusted them to make sure it was o.k. and now I find out that my baby could be hurt by not having enough in the first 12 wks! So even if you are under the care of experts they can drop the ball. I hope both of you have good outcomes.

Thank you! So far my levels have been stable, my TSH a bit low and my synthroid may be reduced.

Am a little frazzled atm because the Perinatal Center won't give me another check up appointment unless referred...it was never a problem before and I am late for adjusting my synthroid and getting my monthly levels looked at :-(

I had 3 LEEPS and carried my baby to term. We did have a scare at 18 weeks, my cervix started shortening, but they kept an eye on it and it stopped on it's own. The only other problem I had was at delivery, they had to break up the scar tissue from the LEEP so that I would dilate. I labored for 12 hours and was only at a 1/2cm. When she broke up my scar tissue I immediately went to a 4! After that everything went smoothly.
