I have finally been referred to a fertility specialist. I'm going to call tomorrow and set up an appointment. I'm nervous about this next step, but glad I'm going in the right direction. Can someone tell me what I can expect from my first appointment?

I know some of you are from NJ...anyone go to RMA NJ?

Hi.

My husband had already had 2 SA's done by the time we had our first appointment with the consultant.

We filled out forms, discussed the SA results and she went through what happens next. While there I was weighed, had my blood pressure taken and my height noted down.

We left there with more tests to book in. My husband had another SA (the original ones were from GP referral and the consultant wanted it to be done again at her hospital). I had to have blood tests on CD2-4 and again on CD21. I also had and ultrasound scan and an HSG on my next cycle.

We had another appointment for about 6 weeks later where we went through the results. Everything looked ok so we fall under the unexplained category. We have been put forward for IUI for three tries and if that doesn't work then we will give IVF a go.

I can tell you what happened during my appointment but I don't really know what is the norm.
If you haven't had any tests done, your Dr may order them to be done before the appointment or order them while you are at your appointment.
Mine started with the nurse asking me a few questions and weighing me. Then the Dr came in and gave me a basic gyn exam. We then went into his office to talk about my concerns, what he thought, what the tests were, what would happen after I got all the tests done...that sort of stuff. He gave my husband a script for a SA and me CD3 (FSH, estradiol), CD21 (prog, prolactin, thyroid) and told me to call for an HSG if AF started. That was pretty much it. It was very easy and even though I was nervous beforehand, he made me feel really relaxed and explained everything really well.

Good luck at your appointment! :hugs:

thanks! I made the appointment...super nervous

Well done Helena_Lynn, I am sure it will be fine, more info you have the better. :hugs:

I have already had a couple of appointments with a FS and had my FSH done already. Seeing Director of Fertility Clinic on Monday to get results of AMH and OH did an up to date SA last week, so will bring those results with me. We will be looking at IVF so not sure if I will have to have an HSG or not. I am sure there will be more tests for me to take. And I will make sure I write down anything I want to ask, so I don't forget when I get there!

I've been referred to a fertility specialist/assisted conception too helena :hi:

I think you'll be ahead of me though because the waiting list for mine is a few months :(
