Have you ever known a child to be effected by formula milk?

i was breast fed and then formula fed and i get everything going :dohh: im allergic to penicillin

my brother was formula fed and is really healthy

oh was formula fed and doent get anything more than a cold.. in fact he hasnt had a day off sick from work in 8 years..

luisa was bf at first and had a bad cold.. she hasnt had anything since being ff

Jack was FF and apart from chicken pox and the odd cold, he hasnt had anything wrong with him. My sisters 2 boys, aged 4 & 6 were both BF, and they both have allergies and the older one has asthma. Go figure

in my life i have never known anyone that seems to be effected by ff! maddi has been ff since day 4 and she has been the most healthiest baby i have ever known (touch wood).
i wasn't bf and have been quite poorly in life, however female family members have been bf and still got the same problems (mainly gyne) as me. also, i often look at the argument of bf-ing and intelligence (i read somewhere else) and i was never bf and have 11 higher grade gcse's, 1 as level, 4 alevels and a 2:1 degree - so for me - it never had any affect x

BF or FF won't stop you getting a cold surely! Caused by a virus. Think either way is okay. More worrying is the diet some people feed their toddlers/young children.

Nope... hubby was FF and he's hardly ever ill... my sister and I were BF and probably get ill more than he does! x

surely if you were stood ina room full of people you wouldnt be able to tell who was BF and who was FF??

I dont think it affects anything at all tbh. Every child is going to get poorly at some point in their lives regardless of what they were fed-surely thats normal?!

I just want to add I don't think that my formula feeding Landon caused him any HARM...but there are differences between him and my other 2, not that it's necc a bad thing, all kids get colds, no matter how they are fed. I have noticed a diff in recovery though. As for intelligence, all 3 of my boys are very smart...I'm their mother of course I think so haha. But in reality Landon is smart in common sense..Landon is very hands on and Casen is extremely smart for his age...he is 4 and on the level of a 6yr old...he's booksmart. BUT I think that's just him, not necc BF. There is no way to say for sure what has caused the differences between kids, all kids are different. But I think health wise considering they are siblings and having the same illnesses at the same time (most of the time) seeing the difference it might have something to do with the BF vs FF..but I'll never know. I think the diff intelligence is just kid to kid, what they are interested in. And I don't think people think BF are smarter than FF...from what I've read it's each child...NOT that the 2 are on a diff level but that for example a kid that was FF from birth had they been BF their IQ would be a few points higher...NOT that they are less smart than the next kid, they could still be way smarter than another baby that was BF. With that said I think all 3 of my boys, no matter how they were fed are extremely smart, very healthy and happy kids and that's what matters, not how they were fed as babies :)

Just wanted to come back and add that cause I didn't want it to look like I was saying Landon was worse off for it or anything, just some things I had noticed lol

i understood exactly what you meant first time hon :hugs::hugs:

For us, Niamh's reflux was much, much worse on formula. However, that was just her IMO. Plenty of babies are fine.

im one of five kids and we were all FF and none of us have had serious health problems. the only thing i get is im very prone to ear infections and have had glue ear twice and needed grommits.

alys was very poorly when she was born but i think that was more because she didnt take to the first formula we tried and was sick alot. causing low sodium levels, but since it has been changed shes fine, a couple of snuffles but nothing else.

xx

My two older sisters were breastfed and my brother and myself were not as my mum was uanble to. My oldest sister suffers from really bad psoriasis(sp) and skin problems in general. My other sister has a problem with her bones, not a disorder but she can break bones really easily and also has mild psoriasis too. My younger brother is never unwell, completely healthy and now when i think of it i can never think of an occasion of him being unwell although im sure he will have been at some point and me.. i dont really get unwell, prob once a year i get a cold, nothing major but in the past have had glandular fever and earaches and things but nothing big so there is a real variety lol

I am for breastfeeding, but I couldn't because of health issues when my daughter was born. So, now I formula feed her....Obviously I'm not against formula feeding either. But I wanted to say one thing about the whole "health benefits of breastfeeding". I don't think I've ever read that people who are breastfed are less ill their whole lives....I think that breastfed babies are just less suceptible to illness while they're bring breastfed because they get the antibodies from their moms. But I think that, once breastfeeding stops, then the babies have equal immunities. Also, don't forget that even if babies don't get antibodies from their moms, they can still aquire them through life.
The reason I'm saying this is because I've read several comments where people say "I wasn't breastfed and I'm now an adult and I rarely get the flu".... I don't think that breastfeeding gives you immunity once you're an adult...
Thoughts?

archie is ff and ive had tonnes of problems hes been ill from day 1
he got gastric at 10 days
a throat infection at 5 weeks
a chest infection at 10 weeks
a severe rotavirus infection at 19 weeks
hes lactose intolerant(he would be this though if he was breast or bottle)
and now hes become allergic to his soya milk and is on nutramigen

would it have been different if he was bf..the answer is i dunno he would still be lactose intolerant but theres a lot to be said for the antibodies in breast milk( I AM NOT DISSING ANYONES CHOICE IN THIS STATEMENT)all my children have been ff more musing what might have been for archie

I personally have never ever known anyones health or life to be effected by being FF.
Alllllllll of my family have been FF and were all fine - no major illnesses.

x

Edit: Effected?? Affected?? Dunno, Im tired.

I'm adopted but I was formula fed, the social services lady that dealt with me was doing the formula all wrong and I ended up with asthma and catching everything and anything when i was younger.

Tom's formula fed and he's been just about the same, gets wheezy, and catches every cold coming.

I was FF and never get sick.

I decided to FF my son as well. His health has not been compromised in the slightest. He also had very bad reflux and eventually had to go on Rx formula that costed us 80/can. So glad he outgrew that.

I plan on FF the next baby as well. IT is a very personal choice and I have been told that I was a horrible mother because I have choose to FF. When in fact, My son is ahead of most kids his age so I dont think that either BF or FF have anything to do with it.

and we did try Soy during his reflux period.. he did not handle that well.

I was FF and have ALWAYS been very healthy... I have always been a very active, outdoorsy type person too..

My SIL bf both her girls, they both had reflux... the second girl had reflux incredibly bad... She eventually had to supplement with soy formula because she was having serious weight issues... This girl is now 4 and is still very skinny and just this past feb she had whooping cough!... Both her girls get sick constantly, colds, flu's, ear infections.

OH was FF and he got ear infections as a child... But since i've know him, other then the odd cold he is healthy.

tbh I really dont think giving formula harms or weakens the immune system. Everyone is an individual and alot of the sicknesses and immunities we get as children has to do with diet, excersize and environment.

Oh I will also add that Jasmine is the most physically and socially advanced baby in her baby group... that is against bf and ff babies... So I dont think formula compromises that either ;)

i was formula fed and i usually get a cold but joshua is formula fed and has been since day one and hes had 2 or 3 colds.

i dont think it makes much difference really.

A friend of mine had to use donated milk because formula had a bad effect on his kidneys. He was premature and in hospital at the time.

I think it is a difficult thing to answer, you can't often pinpoint the cause of things. I don't know if OHs allergies are due to being formula fed etc.

I wonder if there are any twins who've been fed differently?
