Is anyone else having problems gaining weight? I started out underweight and was able to gain about 8 or 9 lbs in first trimester (up to week 12). I haven't been able to gain weight since then; sometimes I see my home scale go up a pound but it will go back down the next day. The doctor told me to try to put on some weight by eating smaller meals throughout the day. I've been doing this since week 13 though. I'm wondering how other ladies are dealing with this?

I was having that problem until I was 18 weeks. I had only gained 3 pounds and didn't even look pregnant.... Well now I'm almost 24 weeks and have gained 15!! I started getting really hungry and massive especially at weeks 19 and 22. Guess it all just happened at once!

ive lost twenty-three pounds since I've gotten pregnant. seven this month. I started out a little overweight so my doctor isn't worried just yet, but she wanted me to at least not lose any more. I have an appointment next week and we shall see how I've done. But, we are both very healthy. At least for now.

I am just over 13 weeks now and have lost 3 lbs! And I started out underweight :( I am trying to eat smaller meals more often, but my guts just hate me all the time and it's so uncomfortable! It worries me, I am feeling contractions all the time.

I find eating uncomfortable because I get full/bloated really easily now. I switched to whole milk a week or so ago, I'm hoping it will help since it is more calories than skim.

I've only gained 9 pounds total this pregnancy and I just found out today that the little guy is growing fine and is slightly ahead as he is 1 pound and 9 ounces. So as long as your doctor isn't worried, then you should be fine. :)

I used to have problems gaining weight but changing what I eat helped.

One thing for me is that if I eat carb heavy my body burns it quickly but it also does so with low carb foods.

I need to combine protein, good fats and a moderate amount of carbs to gain, look well and feel my best.
I eat more meat and eggs than the average person and it eat both daily (about 250g). I add calories from grass fed butter, fatty nuts, avocado. I eat some dairy here and there as well. Combine all that with carbs and I gain weight. Especially the butter really adds calories.
I personally eat Paleo or at least Gluten free but weight gain would work with bread too if tolerated.

I was told weight during pregnancy doesn't really matter so long as babe is growing. I only gained about 3lbs since I lost a lot from vomiting. Doctor said I'm fine, and weight doesn't prove if it's baby or donuts for example. I'd focus on maintaining rather than gaining.

Maybe I should try this...right now I have been focusing on lots of fats and carbs because I really thought that would do it, but not so much so far. How many eggs per day do you recommend? How do you get in enough fruits and veggies?

I basically don't eat any pasta or bread and rarely rice or Gluten free products which leaves lots of extra room for fruits, veggies, meat, dairy and eggs (and is more nutrient rich over all too!) I used to think a ton of carbs would help me gain, plus adding more fats...but it turned out the carb to fat ratio was still too high. I also wasn't eating meat in the past. I eat about 4 eggs a day and the fats I eat are saturated fats. I personally do best with butter so I used to eat home made pancakes based on nut flour every day, topped with slices of butter and honey (will try to attach a picture)
Eating less of the extremely carby foods and being on this diet has normalized my metabolism over the years so I need to eat far less nowadays to maintain my weight :)
If you tolerate dairy well, full fat yoghurt, milk and cheese are a yummy snack. For even more calories heavy cream could be added to yoghurt.
Some nuts like macadamia and brazil nuts have a lot of calories.
Potatoes aren't Paleo but when trying to gain weight they definitely helped me. Sweet Potato is the Paleo alternative. I used to add butter.
Reduced carb intake is also a way to keep a high fat diet healthy...a high carb diet combined with fats, possibly even bad oils like canola is a receipe for disaster. I also don't eat sugar unless I make an exception. Many foods can be sweetend with honey, I even bake sugar and grain free :)
Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I actually gained too much so far. At 15 weeks I was 6 lbs over the max. and now I am 4lbs over, though visibly I haven't changed ^^. I have been having a great appetite all pregnancy.

Thanks!! Yea I eat real carb heavy now.....breakfast was a ww bagel with ghee and almond butter + smoothie made with strawberries and greek yogurt. Lunch was brown rice with avocado, chicken, salsa and peppers. And I candy and chocolate in between! What is that first picture of?

Also, can you share a good pancake recipe that I can make a batch of and freeze? I work at 6am so being able to take them and heat them up in the toaster is key :)

My second pregnancy, I just couldn't eat anything! However I retained a lot of fluid (considering I wasn't even drinking much) but LO was born at a good reasonable weight. She was slightly less than my first but not as less as I thought, thankfully. Babies have a way of taking your nutrients even if you aren't eating right. Having said that it is obviously important to eat right. I was off chocolates then too and also in this pregnancy, however, my desire for chocolates has just come back an I'm letting myself indulge.

That is how I used to eat in the past and it did not work for me. Lots of candy, chocolate and chips too even at times to try and gain. I ate 3000 calories and did not absorb any.
The first picture is full fat yoghurt with apple sauce and strawberries. I used frozen strawberries and boiled them until they were mushy.

It's super easy, you use 4 eggs and then simply add almond or coconut flour (or both 50/50) until the batter is a bit thicker than regular pancake batter. That should be enough for 5 thick pancakes. I often take these places, they are good cold too but you can try to toast or microwave them. Never tried it.

I have only come in this thread to torture myself I think as I have the opposite problem to you guys!

Honestly don't worry too much. Your body will gain what it needs to. Each woman and pregnancy is different, and there's no 'one size fits all'.
If you are eating whole foods, healthy fats like avocado, coconut milk, real oatmeal, protein, veggies, fruit, nuts/seeds, starchy vegetables...you will gain what you need to.
I've had friends that started out at a normal healthy weight and only gained 18lbs, some friends gained 40-50lbs. It's just diffrent for everyone.
And it differs with each pregnancy.
I started out at a healthy weight with my first pregnancy and gained 56lbs, my 2nd pregnancy I started out at a lower weight and only gained 35lbs, with my 3rd I was also at a healthy weight and gained 46lbs.
This one I've gained a lot already (10lbs) at inly 15 weeks. It's starting to slow down now though.
Do not worry about it...as long as baby is thriving and you're feeling good...all will be fine!! ;)

I gained about 6lbs in total and I'm 25 weeks today (my ticker is wrong) i found out at 24 weeks that the baby is healthy at 1lb 10oz so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm 18 weeks and I'm still 10 pounds LESS than when I got pregnant. I had bad morning sickness but it's been nearly 4 weeks since it stopped and still not gaining. I don't look pregnant at all either.

Scan shows all normal though and I can feel baby moving from the outside already so I'm trying not to worry

With my daughter I didn't gain anything until the third trimester, and then it was only 14 lbs. She came out healthy and my doctor wasn't worried.

With this pregnancy I didn't gain anything until after 16 weeks, then the holidays hit and I gained 7 lbs. Constantly eating eating eating is the only way I seem to put on the weight.

You could try joining a calorie counting website and setting your goal to gain 1 lb a week, and then just keep eating until you reach your calorie goal for the day. Also look into calorie dense foods like peanut butter. :flower:
