I am really confused about the hcg test units. I think I am probably confused because I think Canada and the UK are in metric and the US is in Imperial and I am reading websites with both measurements. Are IU/L and mIU/ML equal to each other?

My betas at about 4 weeks 5 days was 5306 IU/L but the sites I am looking at measure in mIU/ML. Help!

Yes I had the same confusion thinking mine were super high when in fact they are a bit low. I read sites telling me that IU/L and mIU/ML were the same but you have to take off a zero from the IU/L number.
So my first was 19311 IU/L which equals 1931 mIU/mL.

Are you guys sure? Like you said Beautiful_day there are so many sites that say they are the same. I should have asked my dr!

I think 5306 IU/L = 530.6 mIU/ml. Hope that helps.

Hmm - I know, it does look like that.

But then the lab I had mine done gave "standard values" (because this can vary a little from lab to lab), which were the following (in IU/l:

2nd week: 15-150
3rd week: 100-4800
4th week: 1100-31500
5th week: 2500-82000
6th week: 23000-151000

So that puts my 19311 in the 5th week (I was 5wks 2days).

I don't know honestly I am confused but going by others betas I assumed I take off a zero, which is making me a bit pessimistic about my levels! If it turns out to be the same I'll be delighted!

Pls let me know if you find out for sure.

They are the same.

1 mIU/mL is equal to 1 IU/L

To clearly answer your question, your result of 5306 IU/L equals 5306 mIU/mL

Anyone saying different on this forum needs to understand the consequences of their fake information and what anxiety that can cause people!

Comments like “I think 5306 IU/L = 530.6 mIU/ml. Hope that helps” are extremely unhelpful and damaging. Please only answer questions if you know the facts.

If you are reading this because you are concerned about comparing two HCG tests please rest assured 1 mIU/mL is equal to 1 IU/L and you’re doctor will confirm this :)
