Hcg taking nearly 4 days to double

Hello ladies. I haven't been on here in forever since I had my son. I've now found out I have fallen pregnant naturally after having my son via ivf. Can't believe it honestly! Anyway I've had two blood tests

First was 4w 4d - 122 (doctor said I was more likely only 4 weeks and my dates were a bit off)
Second was 5w 1d - 250 (4 days later)

The doctor was very surprised by the numbers and we both kind of just acknowledged this is not good. Of course I had a cry and now I'm kind of just waiting for something to happen! I've had no spotting or anything. Doctor has said go back in a week to see levels. I'm not really holding out hope I mean 4 days to double this early on just pretty much seems like there is no hope. I just wonder if other ladies have had anything similar happen? What was the outcome? I'm just feeling crappy at the moment TIA xx

Some peoples HCG levels do rise slower, in general average is double in 24-72 hours, generally the most increase is seen within the first 24-48 hours. But again like I said everyone HCG rises at different times and different levels.

I suggest just sitting back and relax take it easy, and I hope you have a healthy 9 months!

Ok listen to my story!!! Here is why you shouldn't give up hope and that early in pregnancy numbers can be slow to rise. Starting at a little shy of four weeks I had HCG levels done it was 75 four days later it was 150. Dr wanted to give me shot of methotrexate they thought it was ectopic. I said no, the next test doubled and so did everyone after that. Saw my healthy baby and heartbeat at 7 weeks am at 8 weeks. I am now almost 11 weeks pregnant. Hope this helps ease your mind. Oh an my progesterone was low so they gave me a supplement.

Please do and keep me posted. I had just that one very early HCG that didn't double. I looked in the Internet and found bad story after bad story. That's why it's important I tell people my story. My thought is that sometimes we know things to early now and doctors can't see what is going on. Rarely do people get tested so early or HCG so what is normal at 3 or 4 weeks pregnant for levels and how they rise. I'm saying a prayer that everything will work out for you. It happens sometimes that it rises slower its just like differences between women just like you might like sugar in your tea but i don't and a study says on average woman have 1sugar in tea.... That doesn't mean some don't have more or less.

My levels were on the low side for a while then just sorted themselves out to the 'normal'.

Never ever give up hope until an mc is proved either by scan or by passing the 'products'...

Thank you ladies. I'll update once I speak to the doctor tomorrow and see what she says. I hope she won't make me wait to do another blood test. The only reason I am trying so hard to cling to some sort of hope is because I have had no spotting or bleeding or pain at all. I truly hope everything will just work out

Just a quick update. I went back to my normal doctor who did my first hcg test (i went somewhere else for the second one) and she has told me not to work myself up so much over it because that will only make things worse. She sent me for another blood test and I will get the results tomorrow. She told me not to lose all hope but at the same time don't hold my hopes too high either. She said no bleeding or spotting is a good thing and we will wait for results tomorrow. I ended up a blubbering mess of course! Anyway I'm not expecting good news tomorrow and regardless of results I will still be going for my ultrasound on the 13th of September to see what is going on if there is no bleeding before then x

Just another update. I got my results for my latest blood test. Hcg is 335 so only went from 250 to 335 after 48 hours. Obviously not looking good.

The doctor has decided that I should stop doing blood tests and I will go ahead and have my ultrasound next Friday the 13th which will confirm then whether the pregnancy is viable or not (unless I start to bleed before then). Of courst I'm sure it's not viable so I'm not really holding out hope more just wanting some closure and to confirm that this pregnancy is over and just move on. Thanks ladies x

I'm sorry hun. No it doesn't look to good to be honest but miracles can happen. Good news is now you know your body is capable of getting pregnant without having to go through IVF. If you unfortunately miscarry then try again as soon as your body feels comfortable. I was told that a womans most fertile time is after a miscarriage or a baby.

I know how you feel. I had my daughter 4 years ago and I got pregnant again December of last year , my numbers doubled at first but stopped doubling. I then miscarried , with a blighted ovum.

But hey here I am again 12 weeks pregnant.

Also , some women actually do have slow rising numbers and their baby turned out fine!

Still saying prayers for you. Did you go at the same time of day? Did they check your progesterone? I really hope they are just slow rising and you see the baby on that scan. How far do they think you will be at time of scan? If its to early you won't see anything, anyway. Please keep us posted. Really wanting the best outcome for you on this. Big xxxx.
