OK, so LO had his hospital appointment with a fantastic consultant yesterday, he gave me great advice and a real boost of confidence about his reflux.

But...

When William was born his head circumference was on 75th centile, by 16weeks old it had jumped to 95th- Health visitor said I should ask GP for a referral for an ultrasound as it could possibly be extra fluid in his head.

I was wondering has anyone had experience with this? Did your LO's head size jump up and have no problems etc?

It has now stabilised at 95th centile and consultant said this is a good sign, and it may appear to be bigger because of his flat head. He offered the ultrasound which we are now waiting for a date to attend, a week later we will follow up with consultant again.

I am actually petrified, even though I know my son is a happy, smart, perfect boy, I can't help being scared of what they might find.

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated! xx

When my LO was about two months I had to take her to the doctors every week to get her head measured as it was big and growing pretty quickly, jumping up a couple of centiles and then off the chart, although her weight was 25th centile. I think the doctor was worried about hydrocephalus? I think that's fluid on the brain. But he said it was incredibly rare and I would have probably noticed developmental issues already at 2 months so if you think your baby seems well and ok then i'm sure he's ok. The doctor decided not to refer us in the end because she seemed well and bright and happy. He said she just has a large head, don't worry! i blame DH, she takes after him!

I did used to look at all the other babies at groups and their heads seemed half the size of my LO's! Even now hers is still bigger, size 1-2 year hats are tight on her, but she's more in proportion. Hope you LO is ok :hugs:

Thank you so much for your reply re10, I also notice his head seems bigger than other babies, although it still looks proportionate to his size? He does have a full head of hair though which I suppose would make it look bigger aswell.

My health visitor said it was probably nothing but to refer just to be on the safe said, she also said he may just take after his daddy "who seems to have a big skull" lol.

Glad everything was ok with your LO, and thanks again, this has given me a bit of reassurance :flower: x

My baby's head circumference kept jumping centiles, however so did his weight and height so the dr wasn't concerned.

I had the same experience! Baby in the 30th percentile, head kept growing and ended up in the 90th percentile! Doctors did extra measuring, but nothing was wrong... LO just has a big head. I think it's because she's really smart and needs room for extra brains :)

Thank you so much girls, I don't know what I would do without BnB support sometimes, and Noelle I'd be inclined to agree it's room for extra brains lol x

LOL extra brains! That's what DH says too! x
