Healthcare Workers Unite - All nurses, HCA's, Students, Midwifes etc WELCOME

Hi can I join. I am about to start my nursing course at University- Childrens branch :)
xx

Trumpetbum - It is indeed good old GCU ;)

I'm the 2nd of 3 just within my group to get pregnant  Seems we all sat in the magic seat in C001 :haha:

Hi Aidan's mummy :) I'm giving serious thought to doing the children's conversion next year and becoming dual trained. I love doing paed bank shifts but don't get them often enough tbh.

Aww you should go for it. Can I ask what duel trained is. Is that like being trained in two branches of nursing?
xx

Yep, two branches, my uni does an 18m conversion course. I'm toying with the idea of health visiting in the future. i was going to do midwifery 18m course but i think this will need to wait as the job situ here for m/ws is dire. Where do you fancy working? I used to work as an aux in paediatric triage which was great.

I really want to be a neonatal nurse. People turn their noses up when I say that :(
xx

Trumpetbum, it'd be a great idea to do your child branch conversion if that's where your heart lies , as I've found a lot of paeds ward managers are a bit funny about bringing non-child branch on as bank.

Aiden's mummy, you'll find that a lot find neonates boring, too intense or just not their thing. Out of my whole child branch cohort, I was the only one who went into neonates, (out of preference -it's what I've always wanted to do) and I absolutely adore it!

I guess I will find out when I do my placements where I want to be

But at the moment my heart is set on neonatal:) Manda I am glad you love it, I hope I do too
xx

Can you request placements? We were allowed one request for a third year placement only, and I requested a specific unit as soon as we were allowed to do so.
I was lucky to have a three month placement there and then worked there upon qualifying.

I like working on neonates as an auxilliary bank. I can see why some people don't like it, as you perhaps don't have the interaction that you do with older babies but whenever I've worked there I've just thought how rewarding it must be to see those little ones progress.

I'm so happy today, I had to defer two essays, then decided not to take mat leave so it was a bit up in the air whether I would be allowed to sit those essays as first attempts, got confirmation from the assessment board today that I can. *yey* Which means I will still get my distinction and can still do my postgrad.

Hi, is there room for a physio on here? I work in a Stroke Unit in a Community Hospital. Currently enjoying my sunny mat leave!

Welcome, Groovychick. Are you planning in specialising in any particular area?

Hello, Im a midwife in a South East London hospital, at the moment I'm enjoying my maternity leave.

I need some advice/ help about returning to work, I thought you might be able to help better than non-NHS workers.

I would like to return to work doing set days/ shifts, before I went on maternity leave I worked any shifts they gave me (Long days or night but there was no pattern in them), but now due to childcare arrangements I need to know what shifts I am doing. HR have given me the flexible working application, there are two sections I dont know how to fill out....

-Impact of the new working pattern
-Accommodating the new working pattern

So they are basically making me argue the reasons why I should be allowed a new working pattern, I want a really good argument as I have the feeling they will decline my request (very short staffed)

I just cant afford to pay for full time child care when the maximum shifts I can do is 3 a week.

I hope someone can help.x.

Hi everyone!

So who's working this weekend? I am, as of today, i'm doing 3 nights on, 2 off, 3 on and so forth... Thank god you get more money for nights, and even more for weekends!

So I'm spending today snoozing and feeling a bit sorry for myself lol!

:hi:

Just finished a placement on an acute admissions ward, female... with 3 bedded PICU, currently holding 7 patients :nope:
and then had 22 general beds, but 26 on the register... your know leave and AWOL... and absolutely LOVED IT!!
