I haven't actually heard my baby's heartbeat but keep hearing "once the heartbeat is heard, you're out of the danger zone." I've seen it flickering away, just not heard it as I haven't had the opportunity. Is hearing the same as seeing?! Thank you :)

I think so...in that I think it means once the baby has a heartbeat that can be detected. I saw the HB at my 10 week scan, then heard it at my 16 week midwife appointment, saw it again at 17 weeks so it must be the same thing.

Its defo nice to be able to hear the heartbeats :D I only had a listen this morning at the doctors and I had a big smile. Does your doctor check for heartbeat at your appointments?

No no-one has listened to it yet but perhaps the midwife might at 16 weeks!

That's the only time I've heard mine. My friend is currently 30 weeks and didn't hear the hb until her 25week check up, so I wasn't expecting the midwife to check mine. It's lovely to hear it beating away. If she doesn't offer, you could always ask.

Seeing or hearing the heartbeat is exactly the same. "once the heartbeat is heard, you're out of the danger zone" basically means that once the embryo has developed enough to have a heart beat and evidence of that heart beat is obtained then there is an increased chance of the pregnancy developing to term. A lot of miscarriages occur early on and happen because something has gone wrong with the genetic coding of the baby and it doesn't develop properly, so the baby never has a heartbeat. Other pregnancy symptoms can develop as normal at the same time. Seeing or hearing the heart beat shows that the baby has managed to develop into a little tiny baby.

Hiaa hun I think they're the same thing I've heard it once on my 11week scan for about 15seconds but it was a private scan. I've heard they don't do them on scans too early as they need to concentrate the sound waves in one place so it intensifies kind of thing and they are a little weary in the beginning :) I think my MW will try and hear the heartbeat on Thursday at my 16week appointment but otherwise I probs won't hear it too much again xx

Hi, I did not get to hear bubba's heart beat till my 24 week appt, midwife said they don't even try until then in case the can't find it and make you panic. I know this might not be the same everywhere but just FYI. I did see the heart beat at my 12 and 20 wk scan but had to wait to hear it Nx

I saw the hb at early scans and heard it at mw appointment at 16 weeks. I have my own angelsounds doppler tho so heard it at home at 9 weeks!

Wow I feel so privileged, I saw the hb at 5+6 weeks and heard it at 6+4 weeks.
And now own an angelsound doppler, so I listen to it every day.
