Had to go for a scan on Sunday past. During my scan I was told "he". A few friends said they say he until he comes out a she. I hadn't asked at scan as I didn't want facial expressions giving it away. Then today, 35 w 4 d, the midwife doing her check up said that she guessed I was having a boy. How right are the professionals?

Well - the midwife will be guessing - the sonographer would normally say "baby"... so not sure if that's just their style.

If you ask sonographers directly, the professionals are generally right by 16 weeks, unless it's a hunch - which is sounds like the midwife was just having a pot guess.

Heartbeat rate to predict gender has been totally disproved in a clinical study.

I think the heartbeat method is only slightly more accurate when before 9 weeks, I remember reading that somewhere. That being said throughout my whole dd pregnancy her hb was 167-178 ALWAYS from day 1 -- ds pregnancy so far he's been between 112 and 154 was the highest it's gotten.. So holds true for me!

Getting mixed reviews on it. Will find out soon enough

Me and my friend were both convinced she was having a girl. All her midwives kept saying they were sure it was a boy. It was a girl!

However the heartbeat myth was true for me. My son's was in the 140's at 12 weeks and my daughters was in the 170's!

When I went for my 12 week scan the sonographer referred to my LO as a 'she', he is definitely all boy. His heartbeat was 145bpm when I heard it a few weeks ago and I've always read that if the hb is over 140 then it's a girl.
It's always fun to guess but none of them are really true, there is also the old wives tale that masturbation makes you go blind and I think pretty much everyone knows that's not true:rofl:

That did make me laugh. I am going to try not think much about it. Not that I mind what the sex is.
