Hi! I'm new here, but have a question.

I'm in my 7th pregnancy, but have only had one live birth previously. I've had 3 D&Cs at 10-14 weeks, and 3 miscarriages naturally. I've just been dignosised with PCOS and started Metformin in Feb. I'm now pregnant for the second time since Feb at age 35, and my doc gave me progesterone along with the Metformin. I'm approximately 4week and 5 days and have already had an ultrasound, which showed nothing but was told so early that's common, and two HCG draws this week (267 & 487). Doc is happy things are doubling like they are supposed to even though I've been spotting since before my post pregnancy test a week ago. The past two mornings I've woken up to find a large amount of dark pink (not brown like usual) blood when I wipe. It has gone away both times and later returned to a dark brown as the day progresses. I don't have cramping or back pain like I typically do when I miscarry, so I wondered if anyone had any similar experiences? Doc is aware of my spotting and has a wait and see philosophy right now.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. So sorry for your losses :flower:

I have had spotting/heavy bleeding or one kind or another in all but one of my pregnancies. It's very reassuring your numbers are going up as they should, so hopefully the bleeding is just from something harmless.
Things like your cervix can bleed quite easily when pregnant. Things like dtd, sneezing, coughing and bowel movements can trigger spotting from that. It's that easy, and it's harmless and common.

Bleeding doesn't always mean things won't end well. I did bleed bright red blood heavily for 8 continual weeks with ds from a sch (a clot that forms in the womb) and he's here ok.
Hang on in there, your levels are doubling which is a really fantastic sign, and hopefully you can get a scan in a few weeks for reasurrance :hugs:

I would avoid dtd whilst your having spotting though, just to be safe. My midwife advised me it's probably best.

Thank you for responding and sharing your story with me. It's given me a glimmer of hope. This one is just odd--very different from the others. Typically when the bleeding starts it's always with intense cramps and back pain, and the flow is constant, so it's hard to know what to make of this one.

Hi Happy, my story is almost exactly yours with the exception of after one of my D&C's I had immune testing done to find out the reason I've had so many failures. It turns out I have 2 types if clotting: Thrombophelia and Antiphospholipid Antibodies(APS). APS is most likely to develop in over weight ladies after 30 or 35. It causes the embryo to fail to implant deeply, or clots to form in the tubes that feed baby. I'm not over weight at all but I have to take Lovenox blood thinners to stay pregnant. Over weight women also have a massive tendancy to mc and midwives sometimes recommend baby aspirin to help baby implant properly. But this can exacerbate bleeding! So my only experience is with immune issues causing losses and it's extremely frustrating to deal with. If you haven't been tested for immune issues it might be a good idea.

I was in the ER this morning with bright red bleeding, cramps, and clots. I hope I didn't mc a twin. We saw 2 heartbeats at the 6 week scan when I had bleeding more like yours - pinkish. If it's going to happen, it'll happen but the best thing you can do is lay down and don't allow gravity to help out the bleeding (according to my GP). Stay as hydrated as you possibly can, avoid foods that cause you inflammation (sugar, for me eggs and gluten) snd eat anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, ginger, garlic, veggies and protein, and try not to stress. But if you have any more losses do read the Dr. Beers or Braverman's websites on immune issues. It's a hidden cause of repeat mc than many fs don't like to talk about because it's a field of study separate from them. Msny of the fs's around the world simply aren't educated in Reproductive Immunology, in Canada you'll get big shrugs from 95% of fertility specialists (sadly).

I too got lucky enough to get 1 baby and she's an absolute doll. I would do anything to give her a couple of siblings!

There's also a website that has links to all sorts of studies on the effects of everything to do with mc and fertility. You can see how a supplement or food, or exercise, or a condition like PCOS effects your ability to carry and how to prevent mc from happening.

On PCOS specifically:

The main site:

I think you'll be ok and I hope you have a smooth 8 more months!

Thank you so much for he info. I've had lots of testing done already and they say I'm prone to blood clotting so they have me on a baby aspirin daily for that. I'll definitely follow up on all those sites.
