Hey guys, just popping in from TTC.

I had a blood test for prolactin, progesterone and testerone on CD21.

I am now CD23, and doctor just called me with the results. They are as follows;

Prolactin - 541

Progesterone - 45.6

Testerone - 1.2

Doctor says he's a bit concerned about my prolactin levels, though, as they're high. So he wants to repeat the test in a month or two. I'm so worried now, I am so worried, I'm in tears

As you may know, high prolactin levels can cause infertility. I am beside myself right now. What if that's what it is?

I have very regular, normal periods. I ovulate. My BBT charts are normal. Just the prolactin levels are really high.

I just can't stop crying and panicking :(

Can someone please at least write SOMETHING? I am seriously upset and worried here

Wating i am so sorry that you are so upset! I was the same the day i was told i had pcos! I was hysterical in fact - oneof the few times i have ever cried at work!

Unfortunately, i do not know about the prolactin levels but did not want to read and run. Pleasejust bear in mind that posting and expecting a response within 20 minutes is not necessarily going to happen, especially at this time of day.

My advise would be to do a search on the forum for other threads.

Good luck huni, i hope you find your answers x

The only thing I know about prolactin results is that they are very unreliable and it's very easy to get a falsely high result - most Dr.s re test for that reason.

Usually I think you fast beforehand and are advised to avoid any contact with your own nipples (!) as just the slightest brush of them can elevate results.

There is medication to bring genuine high levels down, it's not a big deal for ttc tbh, not being dismissive of it of course just it's not the end of the world sort of thing.

hi i have high prolactin i take medication to lower it you can still get pregnant when your levels are lowered

Omg, thank you for your replies girls; I really appreciate it.

Sorry about my second post, I was hysterical and crying xx

I shall reply more in depth when I get on a computer.

Sorry, I have no clue about prolactin levels, but didn't want to read and run. Hopefully your levels will lower on thier own.

Hey guys, I got the piece of paper the results were on. They're only slightly raised (units are in mu/L, and the high end of the normal range is 496 mu/L.

I have since found out that prolactin can be affected by stress, the time of the day the test was taken at, the time in your cycle you take it, whether or not you've fasted and being on anti-depressants.

I'm on anti-depressants, had just finished work so I was stressed, it was the afternoon, and I hadn't fasted, and it was taken in my LP.

Re-testing next cycle, and I will fast beforehand x

Hope you are feeling more calm now. :hugs:

Re-testing is good! One thing i have found on this journey is that some doctors are quick to make assumptions and give quick diagnosis whilst some take forever!

Good luck huni x

Defo! I've learnt SO much in 5 months, it's amazing! I can actually educate someone on exactly how menstruation and ovulation works!

Thats cool wanting. My friends are amazed how much I know about this stuff. 26 months ttc teaches a lot

Sorry that your journey has been so long :(

My oh stops listening after a while! Think his thought is he doesn't want to know! Although he surprises me sometimes by coming out with something!

Thanks hun x
