Sorry if this is too long...Ok I've been told he's not vomitting he's regurgitating!

My 5mth old has been formula fed since birth, was on EBM for 2wks due to being in special care so got topped up with formula.

He's always brought up milk since birth with at least every feed, it's either straight milk or looks like curdled milk. Everyones says because he's going up his line on the growth chart he's fine. He'll grow out of it. He was tested 2mths ago for lactose intolerance and had a mild intolerance so now he's on Karicare De-Lact. His bowels are now moving good just this spewing up that's the real problem now. You never know when it's going to happen.

He's started on solids, I was mixing up the Farex Rice Cereal with his de lact and a little bit after his feed he'd vomit a little, I would give him straight pureed apples and he wouldn't bring that up. He's now having home made pureed sweet potato/carrot/pumpkin and silverbeet for dinner and loves it oh and he also has mummys home made pureed pear for dessert. He doesn't vomit any of that up?? One morning I made up rice cereal with water to see if he brought that up and no!

Any ideas as to why it seems to be the milk that he's bring up? Oh also last 3 days he's been having vanilla yoghurt for lunch and no dramas with that! I know he's teething right now due to his red swollen looking top and bottom front gums but we've had the spewing prob since birth. I want to change his formula but not sure what to go too and GP and health nurse don't seem to think he needs a change!

Didn't want to read and run Hun, but I can't offer any advice only sympathy!! Abby has been a sicky baby this week due to changing teats I think and I'm going crazy after a week! Big hugs and hope he starts to improve for yiu

Hey honey, i know how you feel with the regurgitation, for starters we were told the same thing that he'll grow out of it yadayadayada! and was advised to start weaning early, doctor decided that we would start on gaviscon, which worked for about 2 weeks, so went back. He then wanted to start my LO on different medications etc etc, i had already done my homework and requested we try prescription formula first, We have had this for about 4 months now and its the best thing ever! my LO doesnt bring up milk or solids any more and the regurgitation had stopped. The formula my LO is on is called Enfamil AR, not sure if you can get it in your country. Try not to stress about it, but i know thats easier said than done, The 23 views and no replies is probably because theres alot of people with the same problem, but not know how to deal with it, so they dont reply.
Hope this makes you feel a little better xxx

He hasn't been tested for reflux, i'm going to demand something be investigated this week at his 6mths needles. Just strange that he only brings up his milk feeds?! I tried him on weetbix the other day, only 4 small spoonfuls and he didn't bring that up, i made it with our low fat cows milk just to experiment to see what he regurgitates. That stayed down fine.

Will see if he can go onto another formula. Thanks heaps

Hi hun if he's ok with yoghurt & cow milk then it doesnt sound like lactose intolerance. It sounds like reflux. I guess u need to check with his Dr & see if u could switch to normal or anti reflux formula. I've just checked Karicare De-Lact formula ingredients & it's mentioned that it contains soy oil - Some babies develop allergy to soy when it's introduced before 6 mnths xx

DEFO sounds like reflux, Jaiden didnt bring his solids up only his milk.

Some babies are just sicky, generally due to reflux, but only severe cases need treatment - as the weight gain is ok it's probably mild.

I agree with nmwb that if you've given products containing cows milk, like yoghurt without problems, an intolerance is unlikely to be the case.

As your LO gets older the sphincter holding the milk in his tummy will get stronger, and as the ratio of solids to milk increases it will be less inclined to come back up. It just takes some time and patience, which I appreciate is hard when you're constantly wearing baby sick. My LO grew out of it around 6-7 months :hugs:

Hello! I have the same problem, sort of, but my son chokes from all the sinus crap he's going through due to teething or having colds. What concerns me is when he is bothered or upset and we cannot get to him in time, he cries and coughs so hard he pukes, like on Halloween night. So, It's not his milk, but just his attitude! UGH! I hope you get your problems solved soon sweetie!:hugs:

Omar is the same. We never leave him to cry. He even fakes coughs & gags for attention & sometimes he ends up puking.

The whole thing with his so called Lactose Intolerance started when I thought he was constipated, i ended up giving him the Novalac Constipation formula, he had about 3/4 feeds of that and then his bowel motions started going like watery/seedy/sweet smelling. Was very horrible. I was able to give him a stool sample and they tested that and it came back as a mild trace. I'm guessing maybe the formula stuffed his insides up to give that result?? So he's been on De-Lact ever since that result. He's going for his 6mth needles today so i'm going to have a good chat to my Doc and see what we can do to investigate his reflux. Jack is really fussy with his feeds now and starting to whinge, squirm and sometimes cry during his feeds? Who knows what's going on. But thank you for the replys, makes me feel like this isn't just in my head, will look at taking him off de-lact for sure!
