i used ta be a smoker about 20 a day.. i quite when i found out i was pregnant but for tha lst week or 2 iv been having really bad cigerette cravings.. today i have been really hormonal and eneded up having a arguement with OH.. i then got reallystressed out and tha craving has got really bad and i dont know what ta do.. friends are telling me i should give in and just have 1 and it will taste like crap and will be better than stressing out..
please help i dont know if i should have 1..xx

you really shouldn't.
it can cause all sorts of issues for baby.
besides, if you overcome such an awful craving, won't that be proving to yourself you can overcome all the cravings?

I wouldn't do it hun! It's so bad for your baby :nope:

Have you tried something else to relax you? Popcorn and a good movie, a bath/shower, chocolate, or even bubble gum to keep your mouth busy doing something other than smoking? :hugs:

Most women are advised to cut back severly but not to quit entirely because that can have harmful effects on your body as well, as it is not used to the sudden change. If it will save your stress, try having one. I know a few girls on here had a cigarette or two a day and still had healthy babys

If it's just the taste of the cigarette you want (I know because I love the taste IDK y tho) you can just hold the smoke in your mouth and release it. I light my OH's cigarettes in the car because I want the taste I just don't inhale them. I don't think it's bad if you don't inhale. But, I could be wrong, that's just what I do.

remebering correctly i have said this in another post today aswell the things aobut smokeingis that its a habbit of the action that makes u crave a smoke not the chemicals you are putting in your body so maybe have lolly pops around and suck on a lolly as if you were smokeing or a rolled up peice of paper jsut something to go throught the movements of smokeing this might reduce the craveing if this doesnt work talk to your oh tell him your craveing a smoke and your getting very stressed aobut it as you dont want to smoke during your pregnacy and that you need some help to destress so maybe spend a quiet night infront of the tv and ban all negative comments or have a soak in the bath and get your oh to rub your back or even go and get your hair done or a facial or something jsut to chill if all else fails go and talk to your doc see if there is anythign they can recommend huge hugs

try & stay strong :) could you try something else instead of smoking, like sucking lollipops? or getting one of those inhalators that your doctor can prescribe for you x

dont worry you can do it im 37 weeks tomorrow and i smoked about 20 a day before. when i found out i was pregnant i didnt stop ( didnt really belive i was pregnant) i stopped at about 10 weeks because i felt very guilty. Dont worry suprisingly it was easy at first but then it got harder. If i can do it you can do it be strong :) good luck.

I smoked about a pack a day, your suppose to cut back not quit cold turkey the effects on the baby are ten times greater if you just quit than cut back. I have done a ton of research on the effect ect. and both doctors i have had for both kids told me to cut back and quit when i felt comfertable. I still have the occaitional smoke like 1 every 2 weeks MAYBE. When i get to stressed out and i did with my son as well, he was 100% healthy never had a health problem in his life, no asma (sp?) he was 9 lbs and 9 days overdue.

Im a ferm believer in doing what you feel in your body and in your heart. Only you know what is best for you imo. I know my limits and what i can and cant do, and my son was perfectly healthy and never gets sick to this day.

tanara thanks for tha coment i just feel kinda bad if i smoke because i havent smoked since i found out and yesterday i had 4 pulls of 1 and it made me feel so much better and now today im at a party and every1 is drinking so im having shandy which is 1% vol and its making me want another cigerette and i dont know what ta do caus i want 1 again and i know ma other half wont let me..xx

My OH is very understanding as he is a smoker and cant quit so he honestly would say anything i have many family members that didnt quit smoking and their children are fine, i understand people who smoke a pack+ a day thru their whole pregnancy thats wrong i mean come on anyone can cut back to even one a day, or one every two days, but its all about what you feel is right. I honestly dont care what anyone says, i have done my research and i have talked to 2 different doctors who have been dilivarying babies for 10+ years, and they have both said to do as i feel nessisary, but to most definatly cut back at the least.

Their is a 100 worse things woman do while pregnant than smoking a cig once in a while. I have given up alot for both my children, (alcohol, junk food, sports, energy drinks, caffine ect.) Anyone is more than welcome to judge my choices as a mother, but i am sure their are other girls on this forum who do have the occationally have a smoke or still smoke and dont addmit it as we are on the internet and we only know what everyone choices to share.

Like i said before only you know your body, and if i was to smoke more than once every twoish weeks i would get sick as thats my body telling me it doesnt like that. I am very aware of my body also though.

i spoke ta other half and he understtod caus he gave up smoking ta help me and he has found it hard so he was hahppy ta share a cig without too much complaint lool.. thanks hun for everything though you ave made me feel better about it.. i only had half a cig so i dont really feel bad caus it made me feel so much better and happier so people can say what they want because like you said they have probly done it but wont admit..xx

I still have the occasional one hun, I quite once I went into pre-term labour but once ful term I have started again, yeah I feel guilty but I used to smoke 20+ a day & I am proud I have cut down, my MW knows I smoke and she is fine with it and knows how well I have done.
My OH also smokes, I've banned any smoking upstairs now, as that's where baby wil be sleeping & spending most of her time, so he has to go downstairs to smoke, which means he smokes less

Maybe you could go along to one of the stop smoking groups, I'm sure they have them for pregnant mums who need the support. I'm not a smoker but this might help you? x
