My little boy is nearly 6 months and i only wanted to breast feed for 6 months plus i have some work on when hes 7 months so really need to stop by then. I am so stuck and feel like i just cant stop as he still will not latch on to the bottle, i have tryed him with a NUK flat teat breast feeding bottle every day for a month and all he does is chew the teat still, he chews it and swallows some but its only an ounce and its hard work to give him that. I feel at my wits end, ive tryed tommee tippee closer to nature and avent, ive tryed breast milk in the bottle and formula but he just cant suck it properly? My husband has also tryed to feed him and no luck there. Does anyone out there have any advice? I have started weaning him twice a day a little porridge and dinner and he seems to love the food! Just a few spoons though.

Is it just the work thing you are worried about or are you not enjoying breastfeeding and really want to stop. There are loads of advantages to bf beyond 6 months, but there's no point telling you these if you are miserable doing it.

He is old enough to use a sippy, or even a normal open top cup if you don't mind risking the breastmilk getting spilled occasionally.

I do love breast feeding and feel so proud that i have breast fed both my babies but i find it exhausting at times and the fact of thinking what if i want to go out for my works xmas meal and i cant, little things like that and also going back to work i really want to stop before then which is january. Sometimes i just feel really anxious that i cant do things because of breast feeding x

A six month old isn't going to be harmed if he decides not to eat while you go to your Christmas do for a few hours. Let us know if a cup works!

I do sympathise though - I knew my LO would be fine but I worried about her care givers having to console this miserable boob deprived child, so I just decided not to leave her for more than a couple of hours.

With my first baby I tried all the different bottles and ended up getting Lansinoh Momma bottles off Amazon and he took to them. They are really expensive though. I don't know if it was just coincidence and he would have started taking a bottle anyway or if it was because of the bottle.

The other thing that seemed to help was feeding him without holding him. For some reason he took the bottle when sat in his bouncy chair or in his pushchair and once he got used to the bottle, he let us hold him! Weird! Did the trick though!

Good luck!

Thanks! This week i am seeing some progres, he has taken to a nuby beaker allthough it comes out quite quick he does spit out some and ends up covered in milk but he is also drinking it in a weird way lol , but at least its a start. I also find it easier with him sat in his bouncey chair too! x

Try different bottles indeed. Sometimes they advise to let someone else feed him with a bottle to start.
Other stuff I've read is to try bottle when he's NOT hungry. He might be more open to try out something when he's not hungry. When he's hungry, he might not be in the mood to try new things.
