We are going to name our son Mikel (not Michael it is pronounced Mi-kel)

We cant decide how to spell it so people will pronounce it correctly...here are the choices:

Mikel
Mikkel

Please give me your opinions because we really can't decide.

If you saw the second spelling how would you pronounce it?

Thanks so much

Just to clarify it is a short i as in it or in.

if i saw the second spelling id think it was mickle . i like the first spelling unusual name but a non fussy spelling

I would still prounounce the second spelling correctly but I prefer it spelt Mikel

LOL this is so hard! I like the two k's only because it is different and I think it would go with the middle name William...two k's two l's. I get suched mixed reviews. The way I know of the spelling is with just 1 K so I'm so torn.

I think Mikel conveys the pronunciation better  Mikkel makes me say "Mickle" like a previous poster said.

id say mikel, a friend of mine has a miguel, pronounced mig-gel, very similar to urs, her hubbies spanish and apparently its spanish for michael, he gets miggs for short

Thanks guys! We decided to go with your advice and spell it Mikel.

Mikel is best. My mates lil boy is called mikel spelt the same way and never had a problem :)
