Hello girls. Well my little lady is 6 days old today and she is doing great. She is bottle fed and will have a time period of 3 - 4 hrs for feeding. Even better, at night, she has started having one longer time gap - normally around 5 hours, followed by a feed 3 hours after....However, she seems so unsettled at night (sleep wise) than she is during the day. She will wake regularly and cry out (not hunger) her little body goes all rigid and she pulls her legs up. I am sure this is a bit of tummy ache as i can see her straining, hear/feel her passing wind in her nappy. She does eventually have a poo but only a little. She will than settle to sleep, but 20 mins (ish) later, it happens again -normaly goes on like this for a good 3 hrs - I feel like i am constantly changing her nappy between feeds at night and her little bum is slightly sore.

So just some advice really - could it be constipation - she seems to 'go' a little easier during the day.

Is it just her tiny body getting used to digesting milk?

Wind/colic?

I really don't know :hissy: Has anybody else had this/can offer advice?

Am so tired as although her feeds are beginning to settle into a routine (sometimes) i'm not getting to sleep at night due to the tummy problem!

Hope to hear your thoughts xx

anyone? was thinking about trying a dif milk?

I would suggest you ask your midwife or health visitor about switching milks........Olivia seems to have a similar problem to your LO, but I know it's not her formula, as it only happens every few days....

We started giving her Infacol, and that seems to help her get her wind up more easily. Could it just be trapped wind?? We also find that if we change her position whilst we burp her, that helps too. So we start with her sat upright and burp her for 5 -10 mins, then put her over our shoulder for another 5 - 10 mins. I was told it can take up to 40 mins for a newborn to get their wind up, so we now burp her for longer than we used to.

We were also advised that if we thought she was constipated, to offer her a few sips of water and that does seem to help, but again, I'd suggest you check with your mw/hv first.
xx

It is gas, and totally normal. Massage her belly in a circular motion from right to left. Gently lift her knees up into her chest. I also would roll my son from side to side holding his knees bent, and that really helped move the gas. Her belly is working for the first time, and since newborns eat little and often, it is working around the clock, hence gas. Plus she is just learning to suck, and therefore sucking down more air, hence gas. It is just a stage they go through, and it will pass, but it does take a while. I think my son got better with gas around 8 weeks or so.

Thankyou girls - Samantha, some great tips there - will be trying them xx
