I have decided I am going to contact the CSA to get help from FOB under principal that hes being an ass and i want him to pay financially if hes not going to be there in body. Anyway, i havent given birth yet im due in 3 weeks and hes not going on the birth certificate soo would i even have a case? If so, should i contact them now? before the birth? and would they be able to trace him as i dont know where he lives? thanks x

It doesn't matter if he's not on the birth certificate, and I think you wait until you've had the baby to claim. I don't know if they can track him down for you though. My OHs ex didn't know our address so his papers got delivered to his mums.. X

You have to wait until your LO's born and you've registered the birth. I didn't know any of my exs details other than his name and date of birth and they managed to track him down and found his last known address from a previous employer. If you just fill the forms in as best you can they do everything for you. If not they'll call you and ask you for any more information you can give them or someone ie. Their family or friends that might know.x

Thanks jade ive heard the csa can be quite unhelpful though i.e. not chasing them down properly if they refuse to take a dna....is this right?

I've heard the same in all honesty I found them a total waste of time.
My cousins ex wouldn't let him see his LO and when he went to solicitors she said the LO wasn't his and he couldn't afford the court costs (he wasn't entitled to legal aid) so couldn't fight her on it. Then she applied to the CSA wanting money from him. He said the LO wasn't his as that's what he's been told (he is he's my cousins utter double) and they gave him a choice - To provide all his details and just pay it or provide a DNA test to prove he isn't the father that he had to pay for. He ignored the letter and he's never heard anything since so they're obviously not chasing things up properly x

As already said - you can claim after baby has been registered and it doesn't matter if he's not on the birth certificate. Good luck :hugs:

in my case they were quite good with chasing up CSA, as my first FOB works. He had signed the BC though.. so I dunno if that would change things.

He didnt deny paternity, and it took less than a month for the amount to be shown to me, then a few weeks before i started getting payments. LO was about 9m when i claimed.

If the dad doesn't pay or the mother doesn't know who the dad is, will then the government pay some kind of money to the mother?
