Any of you ladies make cupcakes?
I want to make the icing like this
https://www.justaddcupcakes.co.uk/Website%20Images/Cupcake1.jpg
but have no idea where to start!
:flower:

Its just icing sugar and butter hun, i take it youve got the stuff to actually pipe it on?

yeah we'll have all the pipes and stuff, its for october, so we just want some time to perfect it! x

It's just coloured buttercream.

Icing sugar and buttercream...beat it together until it's as thick as you want it.Can add colour/flavour or a bit of milk if you like then pipe on.

xxx

I was going to reply, but saw the other ladies have. Just butter and icing sugar. I'm not sure if its right, but i tend to use double the weight of icing sugar to butter. Thanks to glitterfairy I can now make lovely lemon cupcakes, lemon buttercream is soooo good. Thanks GF :)

yeh i use 250g icing sugar, 80g utter (it takes ages to get it to a paste but it will!) then add 25ml milk. Then to pipe it on a 1M wilton tip gives you that classic cupcake look.

Just going to jump on this thread hope you don't mind
Mine aways seems runny where am i going wrong?
Am I not mixing it for long enough?

runny means you are adding too much liquid.. to thicken it up just add loads more icing sugar!

the wilton 1M nozzle is triffic!!

mmm, me either...and now I want to...Just so I can eat them after

To those of you who add liquid to the icing, am I doing it wrong? I'm pretty sure I just cream the butter and icing sugar together and add flavour/colour accordingly

xx

Yes I add colouring, think I will make some and put less liquid in i've got the wilton set haven't tried it yet thanks ladies. x

The food colouring pastes are better than liquid food colouring i find. x

i've noticed (when i got a cupcake from starbucks the other day) that the buttercream stuff seemed stiffer? it was more ridgid than usual than mine  i thought they added something to it x

They might just use a thicker mix or it might not have been that fresh?
When you ice a cake and don't eat them for a day or 2 the icing goes thicker and harder.

hmmm maybe, it tasted amazing though ^_^
