My 9 month old started off really well with food. He would try anything and ate pretty much all fruit and veg. Now he's a nightmare, doesn't seem to like anything other than jars. He will have a bite or two of fruit, cucumber etc then throw it away. Home cooked meals he has one bite, pulls a face and spits it out then refuses to have any more. Even with meals that he used to happily eat. He used to eat cheese, now he just pulls a face and spits that out too. I don't know what to feed him. All he likes is baby food, bread and yoghurt and I really want to get him out of this rut. Don't want him to be like his brother and be a terrible eater permanently. Any suggestions? Should I just keep offering home cooked stuff and let him be hungry if he doesn't eat it? It seems harsh!

I have a fussy eating 3 year old and problems started exactly at the stage you are describing! I now have a 6 month old that I am starting to wean and am so scared he will do the same! He is eating anything at the minute like my pther boy did! I am going to try with offering a bit variety of textires and flavours in the hope that will help although I really do think it depends on the child! Health visitor tried telling me it was attention seeking but he literally is just not interested in food, playing is far more interesting!

Sorry not much help but I feel your pain

Thanks for the reply. I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but like you say, I've always offered a variety of tastes and textures. He's just suddenly become fussy.

My 16 month old is very fussy and that is despite introducing a wide variety of foods. It can be very frustrating but I still persist with it anyway. I think it is better to give him something you know he will eat along side something new so that he is at least getting something into him. Food before 1 is mostly for exploration anyway. He won't really understand that if he doesn't eat what is provided then he will go hungry. Having said that, you don't want to get into being a short order cook either which is why it isn't a bad idea to give him what he will eat while also continuing to introduce other foods at the same time.

Ah your baby sounds like my nine month old! We started BLW and it was going great. Now she'll only eat jar food. I feel like I'm having to make several things per meal in the hope she'll at least have a bit of something!
