Its time for me to go back to work and after being on waiting lists for nurseries have finally got a place for tuesday, wednesday and thursday. I have spoken to my area manager and informed him of the days i would like to work. if i return to the branch i previously worked i would need to work 9.15 - 4.50 due to public transport after dropping off little one. i previously worked 9-5 but have offered to take a 35 min lunch break to make up the difference. Area manaer rang me today to ask if i could work full time. i told him no. then told me i could work the days i wanted but must start and finish 9-5 there was no way i could come in later or leave early. he did offer me mon and fri in a branch in my town which i cant do. i feel he is being unreasonable about the times i can start and finish. i was basically told to choose from the 2 options or take a career break. am i being sensitive or is he being really unflexible? any advice would be appreciated.

Are the work times different to what you worked before maternity leave? Did you request flexible hours in writing and have you had a reply?
While an employer should consider your flexible working request they are able to refuse if it is not in the interests of the business. Can the nursery not take your LO earlier/ keep him a little later?
The only thing your area manager has done wrong is to tell you to take a career break but he has tried to offer you something.
Hope you get it sorted.
