Hi all,

I know I'm going to sound really thick but no one I've asked has been able to answer me...

I've began weaning my LO (been about 3 weeks now). She'll eat;

porridge for breakfast - about 10 spoons

Veg purée for lunch - about 8 spoons then some fruit purée for pudding.

Purée for dinner - about 5 spoons

In between this she will have a feed (I breast feed so not sure how much exactly) and I offer water with her meals.

Does this sound right?

I have no idea if I'm doing this right - how do I know when to drop milk feeds? I know she needs milk as a primary food up to a year, but can anyone help?

Sorry again for what is probably a dumb question!

Xx

Sounds good!! I wouldn't actively drop any feeds. I used to offer milk at least an hour prior to meals so that she didn't fill up on solids - milk should be their primary source of nutrition during that first year. You may find she drops feeds on her own, but that usually happens around 9-12 months.

Maybe someone else will have some better advice but I've always been told (and this is what we plan to do) that milk should be their primary source of nutrition/calories up to a year and solids are just about exploring tastes and textures. So feed as much as they seem to want as far as solids, lots of variety and different textures, but offer the boob or formula any other time they seem hungry. Don't stress about the amounts of solids because that shouldn't be the main source of nutrition anyway until they are 1+ years. If you keep feeding on demand (milk) then you just need to feed when she's hungry and then explore solids at mealtimes regardless of when she's last eaten.
