hey guys its been awhile since Ive been on and heres why, my little bean is bf and has colic mostly in the evenings, so for the last couple of weeks Ive been telling my hv and my doctor that something just isnt quite right so here it goes Maiya was feeding really well a couple of weeks ago, shes always had problems with her little tummy which the doc and hv put down to colic, which I accepted and got on with it, but the last couple of weeks shes gives me her feed me signs and latches on just fine then after about 2-5 mins she screams in pain and her tummy goes into spasms and when the spasm subsides I bring the breast back to her because shes chewing on her fist(hungry right??) I bring the nipple to her mouth and she gets ready to suck then it happens again spasms loads of really sad sounding crying she does this all day and all night and frankly Im sick of being fobbed off by the hv and doc to say shes fine and its just colic her colic cry is completly different and she was feeding fine during her colic episodes before so why not now?? does anyone have any ideas??? I feel so awful for her, and theres nothing I can do
thanks guys
a very upset heaths:hugs:

Those are the classic signs of colic, and it really isn't uncommon for babies to get it in the first couple months as their stomach are changing and developing so much.

I dont know what to suggest for BF... I bottle feed and I changed the bottles and formula and it has helped. If Jasmine starts seeming gassy I give her some gripe water before she gets too upset and it seems to help.

Maybe there is something in your diet that is setting it off? Dairy or caffein?

I was going to suggest something in your diet too - if you're still having dairy you could try cutting it out and seeing if that improves things for her? Do you burp her during a feed?

If she seems to be in pain it could also be reflux? I wouldn't let your doctor and HV keep telling you that everything's ok if you know there's a problem.

Not sure if any of this might be any help but might be worth a read: https://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/baby/fussy-while-nursing.html#problemsolving

Hope things get better for you both soon x

She doesn't have any signs of thrush in her mouth does she (white stuff that doesn't wipe off easily)? It can be quite uncomfortable for babies to feed if they have it and can cause them to cry with pain - sounds unlikely if you're sure the pain is in her tummy though x

I feel for you. I've been through colic, thrush, mastitis it was hell. My lo started going through a phase where he was on and off the breast all the time a bf advisor said it was a symptom of thrush I'm still not sure whether it was or not but I ended up putting him on bottles and he settled more on them.

i'm not sure what it is but if it is colic have u tried using infacol before every feed? It eases it for my LO though she still gets tummy ache some evenings but not nearly as bad.

I think everything I'd have suggested has been mentioned so I'll just add some

x

thanks me lovleys

its just so upsetting to see Ive tried everything infocol nothing, gripe water ok better burps but it still happens I might ask about thrush and reflux tomoz when the hv comes over whether shell just tell me its a fussy baby again who knows Maiyas going to the oestopath tomoz as well its a well trusted oesto Ive been to them for years hey its worth a try. she fed at 6 30 pm today I managed 12 mins out of her which is the best its been all day and it was only because she was extra sleepy from waking up from another nap, we've just started using the kari me sling and it works wonders we just carry her around in it and she sleeps so well I think it has to do with my heartbeat and being upright and warm but its(fingers crossed) stopping the all night colic crying, just not the feeding problem. thanks again guys Ill update when i do all this stuff tomoz

luv heaths

I agree with the suggestion of reflux. With silent reflux, they don't vomit, its like heartburn and can make them very sore and not want to feed.

Hope its beter soon xxx

I've just started going to an osteopath with louis, I would have gone sooner but didn't know about them before. I would be interested to know how you get on. Sounds like you are having the same problems as me, was the birth traumatic? Wish you lots of luck xxx

Im going through the same thing aswell.......Kaitlin will root and act hungry like Maiya and when I put her to the breast she will have a coulple of sucks then just scream, so I try widnnig her and she will push her self back to the breast rooting again, so we try again to feed and she'll just scream again throwing her arms and legs about. You feel like your gonig round in circles soemtiems dont you! Iv found what helps is to put her up on my chest and bounce her gently up and down til she starts to fall asleep then feed her whilst she is very sleepy.

I went to the doctors about it, it had been put down to colic and like you I tried everythnig possible and nothing made the first bit of difference. The doc prescribed gaviscon....its possible Maiya could have reflux. I cant really say if its worked becuase she wont take it, as Im breastfeeding and it has to be given in a bottle in water and she's having none of it!

Id go back to your docs and stand your ground, mention reflux, and list her symptoms, also tell him how your finding it hard, its bloody tiring for us! even though they may be gaining weight well, they still need help, its not nice to see them so distressed.

I know how your feeling its really frustrating and no matter how many times we tell ourselves they will grow out of it, it doesnt really help, but I think I am just gonig to have to ride it out if she wont take this gaviscon xxx

hey hun osteopath was amazing she sorted her right out Iv still got 2 more appointments to have but it was amazing she wanted Maiya to feed so she would relax and she could feel the bones in her head she said there was alot of tension on the left side and moved a few bits and piece around, maiya was the most chilled out Ive ever seen her its amazing she didnt like it at first when she was trying to located where the pain/tension was but after she slept so well so also did some pressure point thingys not really sure the whole way through her tummy and intestines and pointed out that there were 3 areas that were tender. and yes the birth was traumatic. Id reccomend anyone go to an osteopath my whole family goes I have to get back there for myself after pregnancy my bones and back is ruined Ill have to save up for me though baby first. still having some crying when feeding but I tried sitting her up when it started and she hrmmmmm pooed herself silly maybe she doesnt like pooing in the breastfeeding postion, which ever way I feel so much happier now that maybe the colic etc will be eased.
thanks ladies

That's great news, after our first appt Louis was quite chilled out I thought it could just be a coincidence but I'm optimistic about it. I just don't understand why they are not reommended by health visitors even if they don't endorse them at least it would be nice to know the treatment exists I really wish I'd found out sooner!

Best of luck xxx
