Hi Ladies!

I am new to this forum and wanted to get some tips/advice etc as I have not told any of my family/friends yet that we are trying...

We have only been trying since last month and I have been using ovulation strips. My cycle is 30 days on average and when I tested today it was negative (2 lines, 1 fainter than other though)
Does this mean that the faint line should be darker in next few days?

Help!

Hi. welcome to the forum.

I think yuo need to give people chance to reply, there arent always people reading this paticular forum, it might be that they are browsing elsewhere

sorry I dont have much advice I havent used OPK's myself but from what Iv read it should get darker ?

xxx

Mine got darker after a really faint line. I tested 2 times a day cuz I wanted to be sure to catch the surge. Some women only surge for 12 hrs and it may mean you are about to surge or you are catching the tail end. I would not be sure.

Yes Im sure thats what happened to me last month..
As in first I saw 2 lines- 1 more fainter than the other and then the day after Im pretty sure the lines were both as dark as each other...

Like yourself I also tested twice today and the result was the same..2 lines, 1faint..

Hi there!:hi:

You always have some amount of LH in your blood, as you know it is the surge you are trying to catch. When I was using my ovulation strips this month (I was using the Clearblue digital ones - expensive, but really clear on instructions etc), I started using them on day 13 of my cycle. They recommeded that I start on day 14, but as it was my first month charting, I thought I'd better start a bit earlier. Even though you are waiting for the digital machine to give you a result of a) an circle (no surge) or b) a smiley face (surge detected), when you take the strip out of the machine you can see the lines as with other ovulation strips.

My results were:

day 13 - no surge (no line)
day 14 - no surge (a slightly faint line)
day 15 - surge detected (a definite line, but fainter than test line)
day 16 - surge detected (a strong line)
day 17 - no surge (but a faint line)
day 18 - no surge (but a faint line)

So, from my own experience this month, it does look like the results get stronger until a definite surge (the darkening line seems to indicate that a surge might be on its way). So get bding!!!!

Others in on the site have used other OPKs and have said that if they don't get a definite dark line, they take their darkest line as a sign of their ov surge.

I hope this is of some help!

Good luck getting BFP!:crib:

Oh so you mean that 'could' mean that today was my surge??
As in if I test tmw and its negative again (only 1 line) then I've missed the time for this month??
Maybe I should speak to my colleague who recommended this brand of OPK's to see if she ever got 2 dark lines?

Welcome to BabyandBump

You may always get a second line on your OPK but the result must be as dark or darker to be positive. You need to continue using these until you get this result or see a pattern.

Some start testing using OPKs around day 9 - well I did.

Charting your temp is also a good way to find your ovulation date mine was always day 13.

Good luck

I don't know anything about OPK's but I wanted to say hi :hi: and welcome you to the forum!

Hello girls

Right I have some more infor for you to advise on now...

My last period was on 29/09/07
I started testing with OPK on 08/10/07
Got negative results from 08/10- 12/10
On sat 13/10 got 2 lines BUT 1 fainter than other
On sun 14/10/07- 2 dark line(positive)
Today (15/10)- negative again!!

Am i being ignorant in thinking that i should hav had 2 dark lines for 2 days?
whats going on?

No, mainly you are looking out for one result of a positive on an opk - you surge from anything from 6hrs to (usually up to) 24 hours later. Obviously everyone is different. The Clearblue Digital kit says that you could get a positive reading for two days. For me, I got a positive on the Monday and Tuesday - but when I took the stick out of the machine on the Monday, the line was fainter than the test line and on the Tuesday it was a very strong line. So I take it that I was about to ovulate on the Tuesday (plus I got ov pains).

The ovulation stick packs say that you are fertile for longer (on both sides of the 'window') because sperm can live for longer in the body. If you are charting your bbt as well, your temperature goes up after ovulation.

But (sorry about the long reply!), one positive would indicate an LH surge - get BDing!!

Thanks Poppy!

So according to my results below I have finished ovulating now?

My last period was on 29/09/07
I started testing with OPK on 08/10/07
Got negative results from 08/10- 12/10
On sat 13/10 got 2 lines BUT 1 fainter than other
On sun 14/10/07- 2 dark line(positive)
(15/10)- negative again!!

Also since yday I have been getting lower back pains (similar to what I get before I get my period) Does this mean that I have not concieved and will get my period?

Can anyone help?
I still have lower back pain and dull cramps..
Can I be getting period pains already? Whats going on?

Hi Angelica,

It does depend on your cycle length, but 'generally' speaking (well from what I have read), you get your period approximately 14 days after you ovulate. So going by your ovulation date, you would be due on roughly on Sunday. Would that fit in with your usual cycle?

As for your back pain, the big problem with pregnancy symptoms is that they are really similar to PMS symptoms. That's what we all moan about!! It is really easy to 'forget' your usual symptoms in the 2ww - last month, I was convinced that my boobs were more sore than usual, that I felt really tired etc etc!! Unfortunately, it was just my AF approaching. Anything unusual for your cycle should be noted.

However, just because you are getting your usual PMS symptoms does not mean you are not pregnant - you still could be, just wait to see if your AF turns up.

Good luck,

I hope you get your BFP!:crib:

Hi Poppy,

I am due around the 29th/30th.. but have been getting lower back pains & occasional cramps since 15/10!
I did see my doc (who is the worst doctor) and he prescribed me an ointment & doesnt think it has anything to do with period pains.... But im not so sure!!
Dont know whats going on!

Hi, like Poppy says unfortunately early signs of pregnancy are also really similar to PMS symptoms. Unless AF is late there's nothing really you can do, it's a waiting game. Try to relax if you carry on like this each month you will drvie yourself mad :headspin:

Hey Jo!
Yes I see what u are saying.. I do need to chill out a little & not think about it too much...
Im really impatient at the best of times thats the only problem..
But need to chill out all the same!

Also
I mentioned before that whn using OPK I got 2 lines (1 was faint), 2 dark lines the next day & negative after that...
We only Bd'd on the day the OPL showed 2 dark lines.. was this wrong? Should we also have on the day before?

Try not to worry. Even if you are not pregnant this month, you will have a better knowledge of your cycle for next month (that is the way I am looking at it for my own ttcing!). You will have a rough idea for when in the cycle you are ovulating and you can possibly begin to OPK test (if that is what you choose to do) a couple of days before your 'expected' day - that way you can try and catch your surge.

Remember, your LH surge happens just before ovulation, so you possibly were bang on the money (no pun intended!).

Good luck getting your BFP! :crib:
