Hi

Have been lurking here for a while and now need to make the inevitable move over to you lovely ladies, if you'll have me?

Well, I am 34, dh is 31 and we have been ttc for 9 months. DH had 2 very poor SA results and yesterday we went to urologist, where we were told it is highly unlikely we will conceive naturally. So now we start the referral process for IVF/ICSI.

I feel like I am entering a whole new minefield and I know this is the start of a very long waiting game. We are considering paying for a private cycle while waiting for NHS, as I see some of you have also done.

Am feeling very lost and afraid at the moment. No one (outside bnb, obviously!) knows we are ttc and I feel now that this is even bigger news to keep to ourselves.

Thanks for listening, I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Kath xx

Hi and welcome to BnB!

This forum is fantastic - and yes, you need an outlet to "talk" things through. Especially if your friends and family don't know what is going on! Good luck with the specialist, once that ball is rolling you can get a plan working for you. I found that having some direction really helped me mentally deal with everything. I'm doing IVF this cycle and it is overwhelming.

Good luck and keep us posted?

Hello! and welcome over to our neck of the woods chica :hugs:

Hi Mrs G,

I would check with your local healthcare trust re. private treatment - in our trust, if you go private, then you automatically don't qualify for IVF under NHS. Here, they only provide 1 cycle of IVF/IUI/ICSI/DI. Hope your trust is a bit more generous than mine - seems like a postcode lottery when it comes to this.

I'm one step behind you - I'm 33, DH is 31, and we've had one poor result back. Second SA next week!

*edit* forget what I said about the private treatment - I read it wrong. It should have been, "ineligible for NHS funding if you've had 3 previous cycles, whether private or NHS".

Hmm... depending on what the waiting list is like, maybe going private is the way to go.

Hi Mrs G

Welcome in to the fold. I guess it depoends on whether there is a waiting list in your PCT area. In my area there wasn't. I was diagnosed end of january and referred for IVF/ICSI early Feb. I am starting treatment in three weeks time so all in all it took just under 4 months from diagnosis. Not worth going private for that time scale as private probably wouldn't be much quicker. However if the waititng list is going to be a year, probably worth going private as fertility starts to decline after 35 - not much to start with but you want to give yourself the best chance.

Good luck with it all.

:hugs:Thank you so much for your replies girls.

Brambletess, where are you being treated? I was looking at a clinic in Bristol which had really good ICSI rates and minimal waiting list.

Happy sunny bank holiday weekend to you all!:happydance:

Hi Mrs G

I was talking to someone about the clinic in Bristol the other day - apparently there is currently no waiting list for IVF and it is very highly recommended. I think you may have the right to request to be referred to a specific clinic, even if it isn't local to you, provided there is a reciprocal funding agreement in place... does this sound right to other ladies?

:hug::hug::hug:

Hi there

I am being treated a Bristol Repromed and so far it has been a good experience. The results for ISCI are great, espeically if you are under 35. I am just the wrong side but the ISCi results are still good for 35-37- 40%

I know i was allowed to choose which clinic i wanted to attend but as Bristol is so good, people from Somerset nearly always go there. There is no waiting list either. You will get an appointment within 5 weeks of the referral. My fertility specialist did all the necessary blood tests including HIV and Hep beforehand and sent them off with the referral. If you go private you will need to pay for these with Bristol repromed and after inital appointment you will have to wait another month or two for all the results back before you start treatment plan. So it will be 3-4 months and then you will start!

Every PCT is different do you know if yours agree to funding straight away? its worth going through NHS if you can as you save the money on the tests and you may fall the first time! here's hoping!!:hug:

Thanks for all you replies girls.
Just a bit of an update for you.

Have been comparing Bristol, Bath and Salisbury as they all have similar results, which are better than where we should be sent (Southampton) Rang Salisbury yesterday to make some enquiries and by some fluke managed to get to see FS tonight!!!! She has bypassed GP (who was taking his time) and we are now officially on the ICSI waiting list!!!

She says we can start treatment after my July AF and is sorting out transferring the funding from Bournemouth PCT to Salisbury. If there is no funding for it then, we can pay for the first cycle.

Feel a bit ovewhelmed by it all tbh!

Oh my goodness Mrs G, that's fantastic news! The FS seems very organised and am sure you'll be in excellent hands :happydance: I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit overwhelmed - it's such a roller coaster isn't it? But things are defintely all heading in the right direction for you now, so here's to that August :bfp:

:hug::hug::hug:

Mrs G - that is fantastic. They seem really on the ball! Plus Salisbury will be much less stressful for you to get to than Bristol or Bath. July is really soon!! gives you time to prepare though and get body and mind in tip top condition. I am very excited for you!! you will only be a month or so after me!!

When do you expect :witch:??

The FS did explain it to me yesterday, but it was all a bit much to take in...how long is it between starting the drugs and when they take the eggs?? They've just told me to ring as soon as I get af in July.
