HI alll

My hubby and I are being reffered by NHS for IVF ICSI due to poor morphs. We both have had our blood tests that are required but yesterday I got a call saying my FSH at 3 days is too high. Mine was 17 and apparenntly the criteria is 10? We are going to Herts & Essex.

I have only just started and already I been in tears. The doc reckons its a one off as it is way too high for my age 29. So I am having to do another but sods law I am on holiday on my next 3 day so I now have to wait til April

Does anyone have any knowledge of this or what I could do to reduce my level?

Please help.

Thanks xx

Hi Hunni

Didnt want to read and run. I think FSH varies from one cycle to another. There are a couple of good threads on here if you have a search (i'd add links if i knew how to...sorry). Different fertility clinica also have different thresholds. Mine was over 10 and told i was quite high for my age (27 years).

Hope someone who knows a bit more than me about this pops in to give you some answers soon. Sorry i couldnt be more helpful
xxx

my fsh is about 10, my clinic prefers it to be 9 or less, but they still let me have IVF. My sil said hers was about 16, and she still had IVF and now has a gorgeous 5 month old little boy. My consultant told me that fsh can vary because it peaks and troughs during a normal cycle, so chances are with your age it may well be a one off :hugs:

I don't believe there is any way to lower your levels- as the FSH is an indicator of your egg reserve. I did read lots of good stuff about Royal Jelly though- as it's suppose to help with egg health. I can't remember where I read the thread (sorry)- but when I googled I came across a forum where several woman talked about higher FSH and how Royal Jelly helped them. I don't think it lowers the FSH, just helps the eggs you do have so they are stronger and healthier for conception.

There is still a good chance hun. I also have highter FSH (14) and Clomid with IUI worked for us- even with my hubbies borderline motility/morphology. We were told we'd have about 1/2 the chance as other couples- so like 5%! But I do believe things have a way of working out when it's right... really, you just need that ONE good egg and ONE good sperm :)

So don't give up hope and know this WILL happen for you. You might not know when or how exactly... but try to keep the faith!

It would also help to have a early cycle vaginal u/s to check how many follicles you are producing- This can give you a better indication of what's going on than JUST FSH levels.

You'll get there hun!!!!! FX'd for ya and sending you loads of good ju ju!!!!

I am in the same boat and had an emotional breakdown when I first heard. However..after seeing a specialist we have hope. (Novel below) :)

My first FSH test was an 11 on day 3. I then did the clomid challenge test and had 5 something on day 3 and 15.8 on day 10. My regular OB said that we may want to consider egg donation or a specialist would have us do IVF. (insert breakdown here).

So we went to the FS and she is not concerned at all. She says it may mean that my fertility declines in my late 30s vs 40s but that we still have a very good chance. We are going to be trying IUI with Femara this cycle. (I have never wanted my period to start so bad in my life) :) I was concerned that the quality of the eggs could be the problem but she said that the FSH test measures volume and age is a better predictor of quality and she says I am still young (31) so you at 29 are even better! :) You still have hope :) Best of luck to you!!!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

God what an emotional time eh !!

I just hope to god it lowers when I re test in April. I have booked in for an opening evening at H&E clinic just so I feel I am doing something. Plus if NHS wont take me because of my FSH level, I will go there for private treatment so would be good to actually see it all and find out more I spose.

31andtrying: How did you get to do the clomid thing? I don't think my gyno will do anything until after the next results. Not sure what he can do after that as I am new to it all. Did you go private to see the FS? We defo have to have ICSI as hubby only has 1% normal morph

My first Dr was a regular OB. She had me do the clomid challenge test. I think your FSH is supposed to be lower on day 10 of the test. I'm not 100% sure what it is supposed to check but the way she explained it, I wouldn't respond well to fertility medication because my number went up. But the FS was much more hopeful and I have to trust them because they are the specialists. We also have an issue with the hubby(not olympic swimers, slightly lower motility) so that may be the difference in recommending IUI vs IVF.

the other thing is that now I have done two tests on day 3, one was 11 and one was 5 so it shows that it changes cycle to cycle so I am guessing I have a better chance in some cycles over others. (this stuff is so confusing and overwhelming)

Last cycle mine was 17 but it was just a blip - this month it was 8 and a year ago it was 8! It doesn't have to be day3 - can be day1-4 but 2 or 3 are better.

p.s. I am 38!

Tansey - Fingers crossed I follow in your steps and next time it is 8

Thanks you thats very reassuring xx
