I've recently (10 days) moved lo on to the new combiotic milk from the previous hipp one and the last two days he's suffered with constipation- passed very solid poo. I gave him a little water yesterday which loosened him and he did a normal poo but he's back to solid today.

Anyone have a similar experience? Not sure if it's related to the milk change or not.

Maybe your lo just needs a few days to get used to the new formula?

I know that the new Hipp Combiotic needs to be made with cooler water (40-50c instead of 70c+) as the extra probiotics it contains are destroyed at hot temperatures. So maybe if you're still using the 70c+ method that could be the reason? Also you cannot pre-make the new formula and store in the fridge, each feed must be made fresh and consumed immediatly.

I would just persevere with the Hipp Combiotic and give a little water if necissary. If the constipation continues for more than 2 weeks then maybe phone your HV and see what they suggest to help. xxx

Thanks :) I bought a thermometer to check water temp so fine on that front. But have still been batch making in the fridge - eek. Didn't realise that was now a no go, feel awful if that's what's upset lo's tummy :(

Know I've seen threads on this before but from your exp is there any other ways of avoiding waiting for kettle to cool each time? I'll have a v cross and hungry man on my hands otherwise as he's often unpredictable!!

I have actually emailed Hipp and asked if it would be ok to use room temperature water as opposed to 40-50c, which seems pretty precise. They said that yes it would be ok to use room temp water, but that the formula might be a bit harder to mix the cooler the water. So what I would do is boil water, fill bottles and leave on the side. Then when your lo needs a feed just add the powder, shake and serve. Or warm the water slightly before adding the powder if your lo likes warm feeds.

Any bacteria in formula is only destroyed when added to 70c+ water. So if the water required for a particular formula needs to be at a lower temperature than this, feeds cannot be stored for later and must be drunk straight away. xxx
