from reading numerous lists online this is what i have found to be "essential" for my hospital bag.

i will be having an elective c-section at 39 weeks - I'm expecting to stay in for about 4 nights

is there anything missing? anything that you found to be essential that I've not thought of? anything that you think i will need more/less of?

i have copied and pasted this from another thread.

Panty liners/thin towels for wound
Large comfortable pants that pull up higher than where your scar will be
Lip salve (essential as seem to get easily dehydrated in heat of hospitals)
Drinks - I found it helpful to have some cartons of drinks handy so husband didn't need to disappear all the time
Wet wipes that you be used all round (Boots Baby Sensitive Wipes dermatology tested are best - can be used on new born and for makeup, wiping hands etcs)Also very useful for cleaning up downstairs (sorry tmi!) in case you can't get a shower.
Hand gel - anti bac
Flannel
Evian or other water/refreshing spray
Cotton wool (for baby)
Deoderant - a sensitive non perfumed one is best for baby bonding
Vests or very comfortable feeding bra/top
Nighties that button down the front for feeding and skin to skin
Dry hair shampoo
Bit of make up
Arnica
Lansinoh nipple cream (for those ouch moments!)
Aptamil ready to feed ready sterilised bottles of milk, just in case your baby doesn't latch on
Drinking straws - saves always having to sit up if you need a drink
Muslins
Blanket
Baby feeding pillow
Changing mat - you can get the disposable one's Pampers CHange mats thin and won't take up much room in bag

I would add:

a box of facial tissues/soft toilet roll - I cried with emotion when baby was born and needed tissues. Hospital toilet tissues were quite rough so the tissues I got DH to bring in doubled as loo roll.
Something for post-op wind/gas - Windeze tablets or Rennie Deflatine are essential, I was in agony from trapped wind and wish I'd had these right away. Hospital only had peppermint cordial which was ok but the tablets act quicker and more efficiently.
Good luck

Thanks for the tip about the rennie's! Added to my list!

I totally recommend high waisted underwear. I had my mom run to the store and get me some. The hospital underwear are super itchy. Make sure you get one size larger so you are very comfy. But this was a life saver for me since the underwear i brought sat right on the incision line.

I agree about the underwear....I had been used to wearing low rise or thong underwear, they sat right on my incision. So the day after my EMCS I was calling my sister to bring me some granny panties (she called them) LOL

Also second the chapstick. I was very dehydrated and my lips ended up getting cracked and painful due to hospital air and not being allowed water for some time.
