Hey, I am currently in the process of moving house with LO from my mums house to a privately rented house for which I receive housing benefit for.

My OH (LO's dad) stays with me at my mums usually 2-3 nights a week but his permanent address is at his dads house. I'm just wondering if this will be ok when i move with the housing benefit people as in their terms i don't have a partner as he doesn't live with me full time iykwim? This is the first time I'm renting on my own and claiming housing benefit so I'm not sure what is/ isn't allowed.

Also I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me if he were to live with me full-time would I still receive HB? He is not working but a full time student at uni and he is not receiving any benefits.

If he were able to stay with me full-time and my HB were halfed then it means he could pay the other half but I wouldn't want him moving in if it meant that I wouldn't receive any HB cus then I'd not be able to afford my rent.

I just want to make sure I'm declaring everything I should be as I don't want to risk losing any HB etc, im new to this so it's al quite intimidating!

Thanks x

you may find you still get full hb as he isnt working or that you get some help. My oh earns 17000 a year and we get a little help. So im sure you would get some to. But it does very from area to area and im not sure if ni and the uk are different.

Type entitledto into google and do the calculator x

Your OH can stay 3/4 nights a week without having to say it's his fulltime address.

Though with regards to HB, they take into account EVERYTHING that comes into your house money wise so any bursary etc he receives will have an effect. Your best bet is to ring the council helpline and ask how moving a non-working student would effect a claim.
