We are currently looking into private renting but cant afford the deposit and the rent bills will mean oh constantly has to work over time to pay them.
We do get wtc which will help but i dont want to rely too much on those with the cuts being made.
I know you can get help with the deposit, how do you go about that?
Also what is the likelyhood of getting help with the rent? When there calculating it do they take into account how much benefits you already get?

Your probably best going to your local job centre, there is a company called rent wise that help with deposits and first months rents but it would depend on your income.
Also housing benefit wise is the same, u would get some help but not alot, we get about £20 a week towards our rent, it's not worth it really!!! The system is really messed up!

We do have an appointment with the housing assosation on wednesday, so i was hoping they would have some idea on what we can get help with.
It seems they try to make getting housing very difficult! If we apply to go on the housing register we will be on there years before getting somewhere, yet we will struggle to afford a private rental.

Hi

The best thing to do is talk to your local council. They may offer a deposit scheme where they help you with the costs of the deposit.

Your la may also be able to help with the deposit by using the new dhp rules where councils can set us the discretionary housing payment scheme funding to assist people to move.

My knowledge is because I am a housing benefit assessor with 13 years experience :)

Thankyou for your reply. I shall ask about it on wednesday, when we go in.
