How are you coping with the heat?

Most days lately have been in the 80s. I think it was a record high in May for my state.

Our house is full of old, wonky windows. Our living room only has 2 small crank windows and one very large window (that does not open), so there's no hope of getting a window air conditioner in there.

We have a window unit that can fit either the dinning room, our room, or DD's room. It only cools the one room and not so much the rest of the house (ranch style).

We ultimately ended up putting the air conditioner in DD's room as it's way too hot in there at night for her to sleep well (even if only in a diaper), so we use that to cool her room down so she can sleep.

In our room we have a decent cross breeze plus a ceiling fan. It gets okay temperature wise, but still pretty warm. The living room is unbearable.

On the days it's in the 80s+, I can't budge. I mostly veg on the couch because it's too hot to do much else. Today I vegged out in our room (though still quite warm, but better compared to the living room).

Tomorrow it's supposed to reach upper 80s / low 90s.

I just know it's going to be a long summer!

We have central air, so its no biggie - we keep the house between 72-75˚F. But I still get hot.

On the days when I can't seem to get cooled off -- going out in public to somewhere that they keep cooled off is fantastic! I generally hate Walmart, but WOW it felt good to walk in there the other day

Pregnancy during the summer is rough. I swore to myself after the last one that I'd never do it again.

I got the house on 75 but we are near the 100s so my home is effectively near the 80s. I just vegetate on the couch. Today my car was 115 and it took me 10 min to make it bearable to drive. After a 20 min drive I felt sick. I hate the heat!

Yeah, sure, rub it in! :haha: I'm kidding :winkwink: So jealous though!

I've considered going out or going for a car ride somewhere where I can have the ac on, but I can't exactly do that all day every day lol I've never looked so forward to grocery shopping! Just so I can be in some place cool. I may have to treat myself to going to a movie theater solo just so I scan get a few hours of being cool.

That's awful! That's absolutely insane, how hot your car gets. My car seems to stay relatively cool in the garage. Well, not cool exactly, but it prevents it from getting super hot. One of the reasons that I love my car is that the ac is pretty cold from the start, so it's like instant cool.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who just vegetates! On those days I usually tell DH not to expect anything to get done. I might get something done if I can get it done early enough before it gets too brutal, but doesn't always happen. Yesterday I did dishes early and it was already nearing 80 in the house. I was knackered by the time I was done because of the heat, not because there was a lot. Took a lot out of me just for that little bit.

I'm in Ohio too! I've been coping well so far, but....like the other posters, we have AC. Though it's still at least 80 degree upstairs in our bedroom at night.

Can you not get a second AC unit for a different room in your house? Cause when it get's into the high 90s (and above) you're really going to be suffering without AC.

Last time I was pregnant we were living in the hot California valley. I was 8 months pregnant when our AC broke in the middle of the summer. Temps around 100 everyday. Took the landlord 3 days to get it fixed. I really suffered through that.

I am in Ontario and we have really not had it too bad this year...knock on wood. We have not really gotten out of the 70's much. But it is still early. July and August are our hot months and I will be 8 and 9 months preggo at that time....yeah, perfect timing.

We have central air and I will definitely be using it this summer. So far we have been keeping the windows open and we are getting a great breeze through the house.

Wow those are crazy temps. It is 70 here today and this is positively tropical for us haha.

I live in the South, so it's HOT and getting hotter. It's been around 93 each day for the past week. During July and August it will get up to around 110 outside. I cope OK, mostly because I spend all day at work in the air and I keep my house AC around 72-75. I also don't wear much in the house and have been wearing dresses outside.

The only time I have issues in running errands, so I do that in the evening or morning. I can't imagine how you sleep without central air conditioning. Down here it wouldn't be possible.

I do have a question though, how are you guys handling exercise/walking. I can't walkout side. It's way to hot. I have some videos, but they're boring. Thinking about getting a gym membership just to walk on the treadmill. :(

That has to be awful at night! Our room is decent enough to sleep in, but with my hips hurting at night, the couch is a much better option, so I get it! It's about 80 in our living room every night.

We're only on one income for the time being, but I am going to ask DH about investing in a second AC unit for our room. Right now I'm stripped down in our bedroom with fans on and windows open and I'm still sweating like a pig. It's miserable.

It'd be so nice to have unit in our room. Get our room and DD's room cool and then just close off the rest of the house and we'll all just chill back here. Would be so nice.

I don't know how you got through those 100 degree days without AC! I think I would have died. 80s is bad enough lol

I think July and August are usually our hot months as well. I think this year it just got hot super early. Normally May and June aren't too bad for us, but this year, of course, it has to be brutal lol I'm content with low 70s and nothing higher lol

I had DD at the end of August 2013 and I don't remember it being this hot then. I mean it was still hot and had fans on, but I don't remember it being this bad.

I don't know how anyone in the south does it! I think having AC would be essential.

I gave up on trying to exercise or walk. I tried walking early before it would get too hot, but it's blazing almost as soon as I wake up (though it might be considered walking weather for you lol). And we can't afford a gym membership. But if you can do a membership, might be worth it as I'm sure they keep it cool in there!

I've been asking DH to set up our treadmill in the basement (where it'd be a little cooler) since I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of January. It's still not set up (it's been sitting in our garage for about a year now). I gave up on asking him to do it (though in his defense, he's pretty busy, especially now).

Do you have any pools around and maybe go swimming?

Knowing today was going to be really hot, I've confined myself to the cooler, but still hot bedroom with 2 fans on and both windows open (and stripped down). I had to go shopping this morning, so I took my time so I could enjoy being in a cool environment. I was about to drag my shopping out to an hour and a half plus a 30 minute round trip of a nicely air conditioned car.

The second DH turned off the box fan this morning in our living room, I started to sweat almost instantly. We don't have it on (and unplugged) for safety reasons with DD, so we can only have it on when she's in bed or not home. I was trying to get the both of us out the door. It was so hot that I felt like I was going to pass out.

I think there's one of those fan necklaces or something and some can even squirt water. I think? If so, I really want one lol

I may even jump in the shower soon for a bit of a cool down.

I'm in Texas and it got up to 97 a day or two ago. Ugh! I completely melt. I've got the AC and a fan on and still feel hot. I wish I had a pool.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to go watch a friend of ours race his car. We'll be out on concrete. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope as I'm also still getting sick. I think I'm taking a second car so I can leave if I need to.

I have a small stand up AC and a long plastic extractor pipe that I tape to the fan above our hot tub (there's a hot tub, not a jacuzzi bath but a full 8 man hot tub in an alcove in our bedroom - I know weird) but the AC tube could very easily be hooked up to a bathroom fan vent too. The AC unit retailed around $550 a few years ago but the Home Depot manager gave it to me for $300 as a way to appease me over another issue we were having at his store.

I ride home from work on my bike sometimes and if I'm too hot I strip down and stand twirling in front of it:haha: I won't be riding anymore though, almost finished second tri and it's already been 31degrees C here, that's too hot for baby and I!

We live in London and yesterday it was 85f, I've been coping okay but yesterday it was so humid that it was awful. I coped mostly by moaning :haha: and had ice cream. Yum.
