i'm 6 weeks (and 5 days hehe) pregnant and we want to wait until 10 weeks when we have the ultrasound to tell people, as I don't want to deal with the aftermath if I miscarry from well-meaning family and friends. but i'm just wondering how common miscarriages really are? from what i hear you would think only a small percentage of babies make it through the first term, and i've heard all the horror stories about moms miscarrying in their 8th month... i'm trying not to worry but that would be devastating, even though i just found out i'm pregnant a few days ago.

50% of pregnancies are lost in the first 4 weeks. Then it's dramatically lower. Just tell your bean to stick, stick, stick! After the 10WK scan if you see the heartbeat I think the loss rate it 1 or 2%

i waited until just recent to announce it to everyone ( 12 weeks ), other than that only good friends and immediate family knew

Found this on a website:-

How common are miscarriages? Most pregnancies begin with a healthy fetus, growing in a normal uterus, and result in a healthy baby. Studies have shown that around 10 percent of confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage. Very early in pregnancy, however, miscarriage may be confused with an unusually heavy, late menstrual period. So the general figure for all miscarriages is thought to be around 20 percent.

Hope this helps XX

My Tutor was a Nurse before she became a Tutor in college so I asked her and she said 1 in 3 pregnancies miscarry. But then she did say but the majority of them are before the women even realises she is pregnant so they just assume their period was a day or 2 late from stress or maybe it wasn't even late at all.

Try your best not to worry, it's hard! I can't stop worrying myself lol. But if it's ment to be then it will be and only 3 weeks and 2 days till you scan! I have to wait till 25th Feb :( so I'm finding it hard not knowing what's going on. But hopefully the little noodle will want to stick around ;).

thanks! so far everything seems to be going great and right on schedule, and a bonus I haven't had any morning sickness yet which is a releif. i hope the little guy/gal decides to stick around! :happydance:

I hope things work out for you, I was terrified that I would miscarry constantly and now look at me, my LO is due to make an appearance anytime

Baby glue your way!! I hope all goes well with your pregnancy! Stick little bean stick!! :hugs:

It is so hard not to think of miscarrying while pregnant, and even more so when you've already experienced one. Nobody wants to experience it.

I miscarried with my very first pregnancy, the day after the doctor confirmed I was pregnant.

With my next two, I was truly worried that it would happen again, but my 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son are just fine :)

At the same time, I am around 8 weeks pregnant with my third and will be 39 in April. I am worried, especially now that I've embraced the fact that I am having another baby even though I thought I was done after having my son :)

We can say not to worry but most of us do :)

Try and enjoy your pregnancy - sending you a big hug :hugs:
