How do I kno when to move him up a teat?

When i first came home from the hospital the midwife told me that if it took more than 20 minutes to feed Brandon, I should move him from a size 1 up to a size 2. So currently he is using size 2s. The other day I had to use a size 1 for him and the teat kept collapsing when he was sucking on it...so does that mean that I am right to have him on the size 2?!

Also, when do you know its time to move up to a size 3?! He is getting milk fine just now but I just want to know how I can tell when he needs moved up!
