Well we have a 3 door ford focus, which is a pain in the arse with getting Noah in and out fo the back, and its always muggins here that has to do it. Plus with another on the way its going to be harder.
Think is my mum dropped over today as she is looking at buying a focus herself, and Ihave mentioned the idea of her buying ours, which ic great for her as she knows nothing about cars and it would means she wouldnt get ripped off on a private sale, and wouldnt have to pay dealership prices.

Ireally would like a Vauxhall Zafera espectially as we plan on having a third child. But OH hates people carriers and chose a 3 door focus cause it looked sporty but is still practical. But I am now the one that does most of the driving as he no longer drives to work, plus he has two other sports cars to satisfy his masculine urges.

But how do I talk him on to parting with the car he loves for a 'family' car?

Tell him exactly what you've said here - as you're the one that does most of the driving then it makes sense you get an easy family car.

Either that or a BJ ;)

Just point out that a 3 door isnt very practical if you have an accident and need to get the kids out of their seats quickly! having been in an accident when in a 5 door that was bad enough.

LMAO !!!

Why not smash the car up and blame it on vandals, that way you will have to get a new car!!

Simple hun ... you don't ask you tell him!

Bit like i have hun, I have TOLD gav i need another car cause getting maddie in and out of a fiat 3 door punto is a NIGHTMARE!!

Tell him (in a nice way) that you cannot get noah, a baby and a double buggy in a 3 door car, you can get sporty looking 5 doors but a sporty looking 3 door is NOT practical for you or the kids!!

Failing that ... just go get another lmao!

Well it went surprisingly well with him last night. He agreeded that the car we have is not very preactical for our family, and now he walks to work he doesnt drive much anyway. So generally he agreed on the idea. But I have discovered that our car is not worth that much now, and its older than I thought so I dont think my mum would want it afterall and if we sell it we wont get as much as its worth, and I dont know that I would be able to add enough to it to make it possible to get a better car. Cause our focus is 6 years old but has a milage of only 40,000 which is excepingly low. We only bought it a couple of years ago for £7k and now its only valued at £3k!!!

So bugger knows what to do. Plus for his birthday this year I spent £600 on new alloys for his car, which wont fit a Zafira!

He has two other sports cars and wants to keep a Focus? How odd!

Well he has a chop top classic beetle wich is heavily modded but can only be driven in summer due to not having a roof, and a classic 911 turbo. The Focus was his daily driver for his comute to work, now we have just moved house he doesnt need to do that anymore so he agrees that the car now is mainly used to go shopping and outings, taking kids out etc, mainly city driving.

Cat,Zafiras are crap for boot space it is zilch!! They also arent that great for fuel and are seen as not brill cars, why dont you go for a Scenic by renault, they are fuel effective and you can get sporty styles to entice your man,we have the 1.9 TDi priveledge and i wouldnt swap for the world it is fabtastic! Come in 5 seats normal or 7 seats which is a Grandscenic all for roughly similar price as Zafira

Bex.

Tough one Cat!
I refused to get a family car, I had a Spider convertable and the idea of anything 5 door left me horrified hahahahahaha
We now have the Alfa 147, but its only 3 door. Its not been too bad, but I have a little Citreon AX (((( )))) to run about in now (DH has the 147, as he travels lots) its got a bigger boot than the 147, who would have thought!???
Im hoping for a Golf TDI 5 door next. I still cant fancy the people carriers.

All the reviews I have read on the parkers guide and what car rate the Zafira as the best in its class, with very cheap running costs. Generally we will only have the 5 seats up so boot space will be greatly increased by this. Plus Iwant a people carrier as we intend on having a 3rd child and Ireally dont want to have to shop the car in again in a few years, so want something that will comfortably transport a family of 5, and still have room for other people if nessisary.

Ihave found some really good loan rates so should be a lot easier to finance than I thought. So in the new year once we are ontop of the decorating Iwill have a bit of a shop around at the different mini MPVs on the market.

Last month we bought an 06 plate Vectra SRI on finance from Arnold Clark. It was between that and the Zafira. I like the Zafira.

Yup didnt think of that, with seats down etc I suppose then yes the boot would be good size.

Sorry just dont like Vauxhall,if it is going to be good for you then I say great go for it.

Have good xmas
bex

we have a vauxhall and it will be the last vauxhall i ever have!!!

Were also looking for a people carrier, were hoping to get a toyota lucida, all i know is i definately want a diesel

Well Im biased on auxhalls, my dad worked for them his whole life, and Ihave had two Astras, as has my mum and brother had one two and we never had any problems with any of them, really great little cars. Apparntly the Zafera is the best in its class ans the highest selling with it being one in five of every mini MV sold in the UK.

But hopefully tomorrow we are going to go round some garages to look at a load of cars, maybee even something smaller like a Ford C-Max will test drive some stuff hopefully. :)

I've got a 5 door Golf (an old one, not a GTI :( ), and DH had a zooped up 106, but I talked him into a bigger more practical car. But the only way we could comprimise with it was with him getting a Vectra V6 2.5. He wouldn't go for anything with less power, but the great thing about it is it has an enormous boot. We can fit the pram and a full weeks shopping in it, when the pushchair takes up the whole of my boot! So now, DH has to come food shopping with me, which he didn't before!!!

But now we're planning a third, I think we need a people carrier soon. I don't fancy 2 car seats, a teenager and a dog in my 'ickle golf!

Have fun car shopping today Cat!
