How do you pronounce Xavier?

It might be said different county to country.
I say it EX-zay-vee-err.

But I know some people who say Zay-vee-err.

I've always pronounced it as ex av ee ay.

Sarah.xxx

Zav ee ay, it's a French name. Zay vee er I guess if you're anglicising it, but I've not heard the X pronounced before!

In France (I'm French), I've always heard it as gza-vi-é or (in anglicised French pronunciation) GZAH-VEE-AY. The GZA meaning to be like the X sound of Xylophone. But there is no need to insist on the G. It can also be ZAH-VEE-AY

I think in the US it's always pronounced: Ex-Zay-Vee-Er

I've never heard it pronounced differently

I always thought it was HA-vee-er, but now I'm thinking that's when it's spelled Javier?

With these options I'll go with zay-vee-er

It's funny that everyone says it like that, in the section "Descriptions on how Xavier can be used for name bullying" on this site: https://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/suitability_of_Xavier.html, two people called Xavier say:
- Purposely mispronouncing: Saying it 'eggs-avier' instead of 'zavier'
- Wrong pronounciation: They say xavier like (eggs a vior) but that is wrong.
And the site says pronunciation is : (ZAYV yer); (GZAHV yeh)

I've never heard Exavier, even in the US (I'm French/US). I just checked out X-Men to hear how they say Exavier.
I guess all depends on how the parent's pronounce it in the first place.

Does anyone remember the cabbage patch dolls?? I remember they were always signed by Xavier Roberts. I have always pronounced it ex-ay-vee-er. I'm from the US originally and have always heard it pronounced that way.

I've never heard it pronounced other than zay-vee-ah.
me neither. it would be like pronouncing 'yannis' like 'whyannis' lol or mark like emmark,

I think it can be quite subjective. Id just go with whatever way you wanted it to be said. Ive heard people use it both ways. Supposidly names that begin with an "X" should be pronounced like "KS". My name is Xanthe, which I pronounce "zan-thee" but it actually should be pronounced "ksan-thee". xx

I love your name Xanthe!! That's beautiful. I also like the X sounding like a KS. That sounds more like how I say Xavier.

Zah-vee-ay. But it's more of a g sound in front of the z, difficult to explain. I think the 'ex-ay-vee-er' pronunciation is a bit of an americanisation.

I would pronounce it 'ha-vee-ay' Spanish way.
'za-vee-ay' is the French way I think.
xx

i'd say.. Zay-vier. it was at the top of our boys name list. :)

i was trying to work out how to spell the "gzav-ee-ay" bit too  i gave up!
