So my plan is to breastfeed but I also want to be able to express to allow dh to feed so I can get a rest and so baby is used to moving from bottle to breast.
I've got the medela bottles with calma teats and pump but have yet to buy a steriliser as the medela one has some iffy reviews. Dh said we don't need one as we can do it other ways but funnily enough had no idea how.
So my question is how do I clean and sterilise bottles without an actual steriliser.
Thanks

You can use a bucket and sterilising fluid. Or boil in a saucepan but I don't think the calmas can be boiled.

There are sterilizing bags at my local Walmart - not sure if the same kind are available in the UK - but I'm sure you can find something similar

We just boiled ours, rapid boil for 10 minutes. After awhile (month or so) you can just run them through the dishwasher and that should be fine.

If it's breastmilk only going into the bottles you *may* not need to sterilise as breastmilk in itself is anti bacterial and washing in hot soapy water will suffice. However only steam or cold water sterilising with Milton will kill thrush and once you get nipple and/or oral thrush it takes scrupulous sterilising and hygiene measures to fully get rid of it. Unless you or your baby have had antibiotics at some point, either yourself late in pregnancy or post birth or baby post birth it is a lot less likely to be a problem. With one of mine though I didn't have Medela stuff I got these Medela microwave steriliser bags, they made most of the supposedly non microwaveable Medela stuff microwave sterilisable and could be used for other items too. You could fit a surprising amount in the bags like all the parts of a breastpump and a bottle, 2-3 small bottles on their own etc. Each one can be reused around 20 times which doesn't seem like a lot but I found that even though I used mine relatively frequently I still had one unused bag left over for the next baby. It only takes 3 minutes to work too
