This might be a dumb question ... But how does a blood test confirm ovulation? What do they look for to confirm it?

I am usually monitored but due to the holidays, my clinic was closed, so I wasn't monitored. Today is their first day back and I went it for my blood work to check progesterone levels. But I had some concerns, as I did not get any positive from my OPKs! My Nurse said she will look at my blood work and she will confirm it with me by afternoon today. But as I left the clinic, I started being curious as to how my bloodtest can confirm ovulation.

Today is my CD#22. I suspect that I ovulated on day #20, based on my BBT alone.

Hhhmmm ... anyone?

OK, I'm not very good at explaining things, so I've put a link to wiki for you!!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_luteum

But basically, when you ovulate, a cyst called the corpus luteum occurs from the follicle that produced the egg appears, this is what produces the progesterone, which confirms ovulation.
