How fast hcg rises can hint at gender?

I just read an article that said that fast-rising hcg (early positive hpt and high beta numbers) can point to girl, while slower rise and lower numbers point to boy?

Has anyone found this (or the opposite!) to be true?? I know we don't know genders yet, but maybe from previous pregnancies? For instance, did you get a line at 8 dpo with a girl and 12 dpo with a boy? I'm so fascinated with wives tales, but apparently there is some scientific basis here!

Thanks, ladies :D

With my son I didn't test positive on a HPT until 14-15dpo (I can't remember exactly) and tested negative a couple times before. My levels were also low on my Hcg tests so I had them done three times. At my dating U/S at 8+2 they said he looked 7+3 but by my 12week U/S he was measuring where I thought he should be not the dating U/S dates. Sure enough he was born a week before the due date I gave myself which would have been two weeks early based on their dating. So who knows? It was true for me!

I would be interested to know this too. I had fairly high hcg levels and they doubled very quickly, will just have to wait and see. I can't really see why they would be related though ?

I got an early bfp with my son so I would say it's wrong! Got my bfp at 7-8dpo!

With this one I only tested two days after AF due and had a bfp so not sure this time round! Xxx

With my son I got a positive HPT very early, I don't remember how many DPO exactly but the doctor didn't even believe I could have gotten it that soon! I have no idea how many DPO I was this time.

Yay :) Thank you! Not only am I curious just because it's interesting, but also because I have 2 AMAZING daughters and although I would be ecstatic with another girl, a boy would sort of round out the gang! I had an early positive hpt this time, and am glad to hear it doesn't necessarily mean anything!

It's not about how early you get your BFP but how fast the hcg doubles
And its apparently true, as women having ivf who have bloods measured regularly can be given an indication of gender fairly accurately

I tested early with both my kids, one girl one boy

How do you measure hcg levels? Do you have to have blood tests? And when do you test them?

Sorry if stupid questions! x

Not stupid at all!! The Dr. can measure HCG in your blood, but they usually don't unless there's a history of complications or a concern with this pregnancy. Your hcg in early pregnancy usually doubles approximately every 48 hours, but some less...some more. There's a pretty wide range of normal. Since I didn't have blood tests this go-round, I was using hpts for a while to see how fast the line got dark. I figured more hcg, darker line? My DH finally cut me off, though, and said enough is enough!! I don't blame him.

Oh I see! Didn't test with my son so I guess I won't have anything to compare...

POAS tests are pretty addictive eh?! x

Mine doubled pretty quick and by 5+4 weeks my hcg was 23,180
But that's cos I fell with twins! Sadly one didn't develop properly x
