• Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version.

How long did you have to wait?

If you are in the UK and seeking treatment on the NHS, they will not normally start any investigations unless you have been ttc for at least 12 months.

I think that changes slightly if you are over 35 where I think they will start investigations after 6 months...

If you are suffering from secondary infertility, some doctors will be unwilling to help at all but this seems to vary depending on your PCT

Good luck!

It would be secondary infertility but with a different partner, does that matter? Thanks for helping x

Unfortunately not. If either partner has a child from a previous relationship then you will generally not qualify for infertility treatment on the NHS. You should be able to get some preliminary investigations done though like blood tests and a sperm analysis but as I said this does seem to depend on that awful postcode lottery. Probably the best thing would be to have a chat with your GP and see what your PCT offers and what the eligibility criteria are and go from there.

Oh no, so we may not get any help at all in the future because i already have ds :( aaahhh i do hope it doesnt come to that. Thank you for your advice hun x

Hiya Hun,

I am in the same boat, we have been trying for nearly a year now, went to the doctors a few months ago as we had been trying with no success, they will do blood tests, SA etc but if you have children with a previous partner they won't fund any IVF/IUI that was what we were told at our first FS appointment anyway.

Its worth getting the tests done though, we found out that OH has a low sperm count and although this totally devestated us at least I know why its not happening, just praying for a miracle now or a win on the lottery :haha:

Wishing you all the best.

Tina :flower:

This is interesting... We were referred from our GP to a FS, as we'd been ttc for a year (now 15 months). My DH has a daughter from his previous marriage but I have none and this is our first that we're ttc together. We've been asked this both by our GP and the FS and neither have mentioned anything about not getting funding later on. Could this change depending on what area you're in? Our FS has sent us for further blood tests and told my DH to quit smoking (which he has) and to have another sc in 3 months.
