Hi everyone,

Just a quick question - How long does the HSG appointment/procedure last for? I have tomorrow and I am feeling the stress.

The actual procedure only lasts for about 2-3 minutes at the most. It takes a lot longer to get changed, situated on the table, doctor to get started, etc that it takes to do the actual test :) Take a few ibuprofen an hour before the test and everything will be fine!

mine lasted about 10-15 min and it was a little uncomfortable but not painful. Good luck!

Thanks Popchick and Briss!

Im ever so scared, I dont know how I am going to sleep. Its been on my mind all evening. Thanks for the support, I feel little at ease. I will let you know how it goes. xx

I just had the test done in September and I was very nervous! I honestly found it slightly painful but I think it was because I stressed myself so bad and I was tense. It literally takes 3 mins though once they get everything situated. Worst part just hurt like a cramp..I think it's different for everyone but it is so worth it to find out your results! My advice is take some ibuprofen and take deep breaths throughout! Focus on the reason behind the test, it helped ne

Mine lasted a few minutes as well was quite painful but once it was over about an hour or so later I was ok! Just take some advil or aleve and you will be ok! PLease keep up updated on how it goes!

Hi everyone,

I had my HSG test today early in the morning. I was absolutely terrified of the test as I read up about it too much on the net and uTube. From yesterday evening it has been on my mind - I was so stressed in the morning that I got diarrhea and had chest pains.

Anyways I went for the appointment, my poor husband had to listen to me acting like a baby the whole way there. I didnt have to wait for long before they called me in. I was told to remove bottom clothing and then sit on a bed which was attached with a large machine. My husband was not allowed to come into the examination room. There was 2 nurses and 1 doctor. The bed was quite high up so I had stand on the steps then get on. I actually started crying before I even removed my clothing (SCARED) -

Once I was lying down the doctor told me to relax and he inserted a speculum (I am assuming) and that hurt! (This was my fault because I was not relax and the muscles were not relaxed) after that he was checking/taking some samples etc. which didnt hurt, by then I was feeling a bit more relaxed as it was not hurting but my heart was beating fast and I was dreading the moment the doctor would say: "I am going to put the dye in now'' (As I read about it that it hurts on uTube)

After couple of minutes... The doctor said what I was so scared of ''I am going to put the dye in now, just relax and dont worry'' Oh ma goodness soon as he said that I started crying like a fat baby (So embarrassing when I think about it now) My tears was rolling down my cheeks and as I am wiping my cheeks and crying away, not even a minute went pass and the doctor said ''Ok brilliant, wer finished'' I was like.... :dohh: Why the hell was I crying!

Thank god, I did not have a blocked tube, It was all fine. Overall my HSG test went well, there was little cramps after the test. No pain during the test apart from when the speculum was inserted which I was not relaxed, the rest was slightly LITTLE discomfort.

2 THINGS I WANT TO TELL EVERYONE:-

1) Please do not read about experience of HSG too much especially on uTube. Its sometimes best you dont know whats going on down there, I was freaked out over nothing. It honestly is not that bad. Stay positive, I know it varies person to person.

2) Be relax, Dont stress because then it hurts. Think positive in your head that its worth it if theres a baby after. :winkwink:, Also you could maybe have ibuprofen an hour before the appointment (Thats what I did)

Thanks so much for your post YearningHeart. I have my HSG tomorrow afternoon and I've been an emotional wreck this evening - crying at everything, and generally feeling miserable. Your post has really helped me a great deal, and I feel a lot more prepared emotionally. I'm still very scared of what they will find as we aren't eligible for IVF or IUI's, but I guess what-will-be-will-be! After 2 years and 6 months TTC it just feels a bit like D-Day some how and very scary!

Dont worry EvieBee. I pray everything goes well for you. I know its hard not to stress.. Just motivate yourself that these little tests will help in having a baby in future. Just be strong and by the way the test doesnt last for that long either, the whole process lasted about 5 minutes, so not long.

Relax yourself as much as possible (I know its easy said then done) keep talking to yourself that its alright. (I kept saying to myself, this is minor pain because labour pain is worse just to make myself stress less - Dont know what im gonna do at labor time though lol, thats when it comes)

Anyways before I start typing a long reply - I just want to say best of luck to you! I hope everything goes well for you and you receive good news!

Let me know how it goes.

Yeah I was fearing the worst...and I was told that if your tubes are blocked you'll have pain...which isn't true..I had very bad cramps for like 1-2 mins and then it was done..besides that I think the worst part was getting the speculum in! :( I alway hate that part...they always have a hard time finding my uterus! :( but girls its not that bad...don't believe what some ppl say on the Internet...like she said ^^^ depends on the person...everyone is different.

Sugarpi24 - Thats same with me. I find the hardest part when they put the speculum in the rest is fine.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post back for those who may under go a HSG in the future. :) It was fine! The radiologist and nurses (x3) were LOVELY! A credit to the NHS. They were really sweet and put me at total ease. I got some cramping and uncomfortableness when they were putting the catheter in the cervix (although I had forgotten to take pain killers!) but I didn't feel the liquid at all! The cramping lasted less than a minute and I've had nothing since (just a little discharge off and on).

Good luck to anyone having it done soon. :) I hope it brings you your beautiful BFP's! :)

Hi,

I am new to TTC forum.I and my DH have been trying for around a year now.DH is perfectly fine, while I have slight hypothyroidism, and I had my HSG done a few days ago.The doctor was able to inject the dye after trying for about 4 times..he told me that my cervix is tight and that is the reason I am not getting pregnant...anyone having similar issues...any idea what is the treatment...Can i conceive naturally?...I will be seeing my doctor after 2 weeks..not able to control my anxiety...Hope it is not a big issue...Fingers crossed..

Hi Evibee - Great to hear it went well.. see its actually not as bad as it seems and we were getting all scared. Lol

dhritz - Sorrry I dont have knowledge to the question you are asking, sorry me no help but I wish you the best and that eveything goes well. Let us know how it goes with the doctors. Bets of Luck. x
