I've just been diagnosed with PCOS and managed to get an appt with a private consultant in 3 weeks time (thought that was long for private but nevermind) but just found out that my insurance won't cover any fertility treatments I might need so have now got an appt with my NHS Gp tomorrow. Just really worried that he'll tell me I have to wait a year or something before i can see a consultant about it. I have't had a period since came off BCP in January so hopefully they will see it as urgent?

Anyone any ideas?

hey hun sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with PCOS not sure I can give you any idea with NHS as I don't think they know either but to be honest in my experience waiting lists for physio I had (even though it is not comparable to you) took 4 weeks to get an appointment so not too bad hun so fingers crossed you get an appointment sooner I guess it just depends on the department.

wishing you lots of luck and hugs xx

Hi Isabella,

I think the waiting list depends on the area you live in. I once put my hospital in google and found a website (probably was the hospital website!) that gave approximate waiting times per department. It was really useful - do you know what hospital near you has a good fertility department? Although I live near to one of the two hospitals in my area, I chose the one further away as it had a better reputation for gynaecology care than the nearer one. Might be worth you investigating on your local hospitals websites so if you get the option!

Take care,

Elle x

It does depend on the area you live in, sad to say the wait for where i live (Glasgow) was 9 months to go from a gyne to the assisted conception unit.
