How long will I lose blood for after ERPC?

I'm getting conflicting answers from the health professionals on this....can anyone who has had a los and ERPC tell me how long they bled for.

I'm a bit worried as the surgeon told me I shouldn't really bleed at all, the nurse in EPU told me I'd bleed a bit and it would tail off quickly, and my midwife told me, I can bleed on and off for up to two weeks.

My bleeding started very light, but actually seems a touch heavier now, and is different....difficult to describe, but its like its darker more dried blood, mixed with a lighter blood coloured discharge, whereas at first it was all just thin watery red blood.

I'm also still getting the occasional cramps....like period pain. Not unmanageable, but again some places tell you its normal, some say after the ERPC you shouldn't feel any cramps and thats a sign of a problem.

Oh I don't know what to think...or who to beleive....can anyone who has been through it, please let me know?

I had bleeding & cramps for about a week chick

The cramps are caused by your uterus contracting back to its normal size xx

hiya, i had my erpc 2nd oct, and they told me up 2 6wks, but after the op, i gushed outta blood twice, in the hospital, the nurse checked it out and said i shouldnt bleed much more and she was right, i got home and layed in bed, i had a light bleed for 4 days after, then nothing, my period came 5 weeks and 4 days later, but the pains i was gettin wer that bad i had to phn hospital up again, they told me it was normall, i shoulda been 12wks gone but baby stopped growing at 9wks 2 days, i am so sorry for your loss sweetie, take care xx

With mine, I reckon from start to finish it was about 10 days. Mine started off quite heavy and then petered down to just a browny discharge.

hi, i had my ERPC on the 3rd November after my routine 12wk scan showed the fetus has stopped growing at around 7wks and i had had a missed miscarriage. I bled lightly for 3 or 4 days after the procedure but continued to spot for about 2.5wks after that. I am patiently waiting on my 1st a/f now so we can try again.

I was told that unless you are in a lot of pain or it is smelly (sorry if TMI) then it is nothing to worry about. The thing is that everyone is different, all i wanted was for someone to tell me you will bleed for 1wk, ov in another 2wks then have your period 2wks after that but everyone is different and there is no straight answers for any of these things.

i had mine for 2 days and its almost finished now. tho i had excruitiating pain and lots of heavy blood loss so maybe thats why it hasnt taken as long

I bled for 6 days, mostly light not like an AF. I had cramps too.

First of all I'm really sorry about your loss, I know how you feel I went through this in September. I bled really lightly for 2 days had AF 30 days later

Hi Lyns,

I have to agree with everyone else. It varies. But the midwife told me that unless you soak a pad in 2 hours (and the obvious stuff, like smelly discharge or very bad pains) everything else is normal, up to 6 weeks in the worst scenario.

My idwife actually checked my pad (lol) before i left and said it looked fine (was bleeding medium perhaps and bright red) and to expect my period at 4 to 6 weeks.

As it happened i had very light bleeding,tapering off to light spotting finishing at about 4-6 days. My af came 5 days later than normal and then the fun with a whole new set of cycle symptoms started..but i digress

Dont worry. As long as things seem and feel normal-they are normal to you- i wouldnt worry. Its the really big and ugly symptoms you have to worry about and you would know it if you saw it- which you wont!

Sorry to hear of your loss too hunny....Its an awful thing for anyone.

Just wanted to update you Lyns,

i had very light cramps yesterday..more like a dull ache, tiny shooting pains from the same spot...but nothing, really today. I also had bright red bleeding at the hospital (totally different from the mc itself, and i suspect more from the actual d&c as opposed to anything else) it tapered off almost immediately and is now very light, if anything.

I will add that i am a very quick healer and /or lucky as you know things were very much the same last time.

I bled for about a week. Heavy in places then it just trailed off. All different colours and types of blood. Also had cramps quite early afterwards. But it's been 10 days now, bleeding has stopped and feel relatively normal again. Which is good, but also a bit sad.
