I am due on Jan 1st 2016, since he will be a winter baby I wanted to know how many bodysuits/onesies do I need to purchase. Luckily it does not snow in California, I am planning to buy onesies, sweater (1), swaddle(2), 3 piece cardigan set (1), Gown (2) ....anything more . Also planning to buy size 0-3 months since I read they grow out of newborn size very soon. Till now I have not shopped anything, so any help would be appreciated :flower: . Also I hope this is the right forum to post, didn't know where else to post.

I would personally get some new born. New born and 0-3 are very different sizes and 0-3 tend to swamp the average new born unless you're exoecting a 10lber. My son was born at 7lb and is 7 weeks and is still in new born!
Erm it also depends how often you plan on washing and how sicky your baby is. Nappies also can leak quite often.

Maybe start off with 6-8vests/baby grows (sleep suits) and if you need more then buy them as you go a long?
We probably had a mixture of 20 of both and everything's been worn lots of times but my baby is sicky x

As above we have about 20 in each size, again my LO is 8 weeks and is still in newborn although a few are finally getting tight!

I've only recently started putting him in vests and soft trousers which are 0-3 and some are huge on him!

I would get some newborn to be on the safe side. My son was 6lb 7oz and didnt get into 0-3 month clothing until he was 3.5 months old!
I would probably say get around 10 bodysuits/sleepsuits as it all depends how sicky your baby will be and if they need changing 2/3+ times a day x

I loved gowns for the newborn stage. As far as how many bodysuits/onsies, it depends on a couple factors:
  • How much your baby spits-up
  • How often you want to do laundry.
  • Whether or not your baby hates having his/her clothes changed.

5 or 7 would be a good start I suppose, assuming there are other things you could use like gowns and sleep suits. You can always get more if your baby spits up a lot. Also, when it was winter, we dressed Violet in a lot of sleep suits without anything underneath.

As for sizes, we dressed our kids in gowns for most of the first month. We used 0-3 month sized gowns and rolled the sleeves until they were grown into. Then when we started using other stuff (sleep suits and onesies), we went with the 0-3 month stuff. It might not fit right, but as long as the baby is warm, they're fine. It's not like they're crawling yet.

I would go for 10 newborn sleep suits in NB (side note: zip up, not snaps!) and then a mix of outfits and sleepsuits in 0-3. I would also add a warmish coat (size 0-3) to your list. You might not need it much in California, but it could still be chilly at night etc.

My LO would have been swimming in 0-3 at birth, but I get not wanting to risk having clothes that won't be worn. You would get 10 sleepsuits for under $100, so unless money is really tight I would say do it. There is a value to not trying to rush out and buy things with a newborn to deal with, too! :flower: Carters online is great... And as you can wait, you can look at prices and wait for deals. They also always have coupon codes for stuff like 20% off if you spend $40+

The only other stuff I would buy is:
-muslin burp cloths (we used them all the time, but I know some people say they didn't!)
-sleep sacks
-swaddling blankets

Congratulations, and happy shopping! :)

my little girl did not fit into newborn next sleepsuits. she went straight into 0-3. so id just get a cheap newborn and then buy more if shes small? my daughter was 71b 9oz and was 21 inches xx

id say about 7-10 sleepsuits. 10-12 vests. outfits depend on how controlled you are lol!! if your controlled id say pick 3 outfits maybee? nappies can explode so always consider you may get through 2-3 vests in a day. or my daughter used to wee when her nappy came off xx

p.s im in the uk and the length varies in shop to shop. so you may find your baby is in different sizes in differebt shops x

bodysuits. they close under the nappy with press studs but dont have legs. vary in arm lengths though xx

Even here in the US, they're not REALLY onesies; that's actually a brand name. They're not "vests" here though.

Sarah was so confused between Onesies and Bodysuits LOL !!

My daughter was pretty much in them all the time until about 8 weeks and then still quite often after that depending on what our plans were for the day and the weather. She was born in early February. It is cold here, but we used them mostly for the convenience. Until they are a bit older, I didn't find that two-piece outfits fit very well. She was on the smaller side (6lbs 9oz at birth), but didn't fit into 0-3 months clothes until 3 months and even then could still wear her newborn sleepsuits just fine.

We have masses - totally unnecessary.

We go through 1-3 a day depending on sick/wet etc and we wash her clothes every 2 to 3 days. I would say 10 would have been plenty.
