Hi ladies,

Sorry to be posting here when I'm not pregnant (I hope!), but I thought you ladies might be the best to ask.

We're going to be TTC number two in November. We already have a gorgeous little 16-month-old boy and we want to have our next child some time in the summer next year.

I came off the pill a couple of months ago to chart my cycles and we have been avoiding the fertile days. Or so I thought. I checked my chart again today and it looks like we DTD five days before ovulation - didn't intend for that to happen! I'm about 10 dpo now and starting to feel very tired and needing to go to the toilet frequently. I'm going to buy a test tomorrow to satisfy my curiosity, but for now, I'm just wondering when you ladies conceived for this (or other) pregnancies. Did anyone manage to conceive by DTD 5 days before ovulation?

Thanks for your help!

I dont know how many days before ov. as we dtd a lot during the times we tried to conceive. It is possible u could b pregnant as they say sperm can live for up to 7 days inside the female. Update us with your test results tomorrow... mayb you'll b having a spring baby instead of a summer one lol x

According to my chart I DTD twice the day before and the day after. I was so sure I wouldn't get pregnant as I just really wasn't in the mood to have it loads and we've been trying 11 months prior to the BFP and many months a lot more.

Welll I said on the day of O.. But we also did the day before O and every other day leading up to that.. and also the day after O.

With this one it was 2 days before O and also 4 days before O.

When I had my chemical pregnancy in Nov. we dtd 4-5 days before O. I don't know if that was why it didn't stick or not, although it was always in the back of my mind. That said I was always searching charts on FF to see if people got :bfp: when they only dtd 4 days before O, and there were quite a few!

Thanks for all your replies ladies.

I did a test and it was negative, so it looks like I was lucky this month! It wouldn't be the end of the world to have a baby a few months earlier than we planned, but as a teacher I want to work the whole year before having a baby in the summer holiday. Emotionally we're ready.

I'll wait a few more days and if I miss my period I'll test again - last night I had to get up twice in the night to go to the loo, so unlike me!!

This time we started ttc #2 in may. We also quite wanted a summer baby so thought we would try casually from may.

We last dtd on the Sunday. I thought I ovulated on the Tuesday. Scan yesterday put me at exactly 12 weeks so this would suggest I ovulated on the Thursday. If this was the case, 4 days.

With my little boy we dtd every day.

Good luck :)

if you have been dtd more then usuall it can cause irritation to you bladder, so if you get another test negetive and are still peeing more than normal take a sample down to docs and get checked out as that can get really painfull, i thought i was exploding on the inside last time i had bladder infection caused by to much sex lol x

I know when I'm ovulating as I get one day of awful ovulation pains, and this month due to my hubby working away we only did it once and it was the day after ovulation. So obviously that's defo the day I conceived!!

Probably a day before or on the day of... wasn't on purpose though but if I figured it out correct then yep.

With my DS It was the day before ovulation with the baby we DTD 6 days before ovulation and 2 days before..x

We had been trying for almost 2 and a half years and were pretty jaded by then, as far as dtd went. We've been dtd during my fertile period for so long every cycle that it was just automatic to feel like dtd while I was fertile. The month we conceived (June), it was definitely FUN and in no way mechanical (which DH liked a lot) so that kind of took our minds off making a baby at the time. We didn't use our usual preseed or soft cups and I'm pretty sure some saliva was involved (sorry if TMI, but they say that's bad for conception) and then my temp shot up a day and a half later, and the rest is history! I got a +HPT at 15 dpo, which was one day past my expected period date. I think that as long as you have fertile CM and good enough sperm (my DH's was considered very low), your chances of conceiving are pretty good. I also had a HSG done about 4 months prior, which also helped me since it was discovered that both my tubes were clogged with God-knows-what!

Good luck to you!! I hope you can conceive quickly once you are ready to start trying!

btw: We dtd June 1 and June 3; temp went up early June 4th am. I'm pretty sure I O'd between June 2 and June 3. 8 week scan on July 16th put me at 8w2d (which would mean I O'd on June 2, but temp didn't go up til June 4)

we dtd o-4 o-1 and day of o! I got a negative 10dpo and positive 12dpo.

Thanks again ladies for all you input, from your replies and from the poll it seems very few people have managed to get pregnant from DTD 5 days before O.

RCAFwife: congratulations on your pregnancy after so long trying! I can't imagine what that must have been like and I can totally understand how it must have felt like a chores after so long.

As for me, I did another test this morning and it was negative. I'm pretty sure the exhaustion must all be in my head and I'll have to monitor the crazy peeing in case it's something else. I know it's important to me to wait until November, as I want to teach my class for the whole academic year, have a baby in the summer holiday and then have a whole academic year of maternity leave (unlike last time where I went back full time when my son was 5.5 months). Emotionally though, I am ready now and have been for about a year now. I have to say, I was relieved, but also a little disappointed to see those BFNs. I can't wait for November! Come sooner!

Thanks again ladies.

Just popping in for a nosey!

We tried DTD every other day around my fertile time and it didn't work for us. So we decided sod it, got some fun supplies in, relaxed and did it everyday, sometimes twice a day in the days leading up to, and after ovulation... and voila!! Sometimes it comes down to quantity over quality lol! :haha:

I used charting, a great app called Fertility Friend and taking my temps, checking mucus... And sticking my legs up against the wall with a pillow under my butt! xx

Cherry Bow so close to the big day now! Hope these last weeks are comfortable ones for you!

I'm charting this month too (and from now until I get pregnant). I wanted to regulate my cycles after coming off the pill and to see when I'm ovulating before we try in November, I was surprised by ovulating very early. The last time I came off the pill it took months for my periods to go back to a normal length, they were always really long, so I wasn't expecting ovulation so soon.

I do like charting - of the month I've been doing it - and I was amazed that my body actually worked :haha: I always thought it just wouldn't work for me and I'd have random patterns, but no, there it was dip before ovulation and clear rise afterwards.

Can't wait for November now!

If you haven't already squirrel, I suggest reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. I started reading it when I was looking for a new type of birth control after not being able to handle bc pills/patches (had numbess in extremeties - they thought I was going to have a stroke!) and condoms were just like sandpaper lol. It's a very informative book and really makes sense of charting. The book has a website too if you wanted to look at that instead :)

Thanks for the advice RCAFWife; I had the same idea as you though and found it when I was looking for an alternative to the pill a while back. I have since bought it even though I stayed on the pill, mainly to learn more about reproductive health for when we start trying. I've learnt a lot from it and have learnt to chart from there as well.

Thanks for the tip though :) and I too recommend it to anyone trying!
