How many hours per day total do you hold your baby?

My Lo is 8.5 months and I probably hold her less than 30 minutes a day....unless I am baby wearing and then its obviously more. But yeah...if I am at home its probably under 30 minutes. She isn't a cuddly baby any more!

I still hold my LO all day, through choice. She is very independant and doesn't mind sitting by herself playing, I like my cuddles though!

Saying that though my cuddles now usually consist of my hair being pulled or my face being attacked by a baby hand or my cheek getting slobbered on lol!

Hardly ever :( I hold his hands while he stands and play with him and things but as for actual cuddles he hates them! Even when he eats he likes to feed himself so there's no bottle feeding cuddles either. When he was a newborn I held him as much a possible though. Your midwives are idiots by the sound of it.

I cuddle LO as much as I can because I know that once she's mobile then she'll be off and I won't get as many cuddles as I do now! x

I always hold my babies till they dont want to be held. Look at it this way will you look back and wish you never held them to much or regret not holding them enough ? think about it. I think the world needs more hugs, love and to be held more.

Pam Leo article for you,

you cannot spoil a child with holding it. Human touch and mums presence is really important.

I hold Corey for most of the day, way over 6 hours lol n then I hold him all night. What the hell is so wrong about hugging ur own children ile never no!
U can't spoil a child by showing them affection

I ave a bleeding scare on my face from today's "cuddles"lol

When my DD was a baby all the time, she would nap on me and i was breastfeeding so held her at least 6hrs a day, my son likes a cuddle and to be held if i am doing things but he won't nap on me ever, unless he is really ill. He literally pushes himself away and arches his back until i put him in his crib :(

I don't think anyone ever overdosed on cuddles (love)!

Ignore them. I've found that for some reason midwives and HVs are really pushy with making sure you put your baby down. I asked the HV some advice on how to get LO to sleep when he was a few weeks old and her response was to put him on the floor I was holding him to much  it was even made in to a big deal on my hospital notes when I had him that I wouldn't put him down...they'd written "keeps refusing drugs and to put baby down"

Make the most of hugs, we only probably get about an hour in total a day now.

Wow, I can't believe nurses told you that your holding your baby too much! I would totally ignore them to be honest, a newborn baby needs comfort to feel safe and secure and you cannot spoil them by holding them and comforting them. What a load of nonsense! Sending :hugs:

Oh I sure Miss them days u hold Ur little one as often as u want won't be long till he is growing up and running away when u want a cuddle.

You can't and won't spoil your baby from holding him/her too much.
I literally hold my 5 month old 23 hours a day. She sleeps in my arms at night too. At first it was a little uncomfy getting used to it at night, but now it isn't. The other 1 hour a day is 45 minutes of daddy holding her and 15 minutes of being on the floor. And surprisingly enough those 15 minutes a day are enough for her to learn gross motor skills! She was crawling at 4 months and sitting up 1 week ago. I actually read somewhere babies who are worn learn to walk on average 2 months earlier.

Thank you again to everyone I spoke with his doctor today, who said to hold him a LOT and give him lots of love/cuddles. I told her some nurses were saying the opposite...and she said that he needs to be held a lot right now. Made me feel better. Thank you for all of the support. :hugs:

I'm feeling so much better. Oh...and I'm SO IN LOVE with my beautiful little baby. He is so amazing. He is holding his bottle with his hands (lightly) and he pushes his binky into his mouth. Loving being a mommy, but still can't wait til he is home.
